Places and spaces in and around Bristol’s The Galleries shopping centre will become performance stages, a/v viewing platforms, art galleries and more over the May Day Bank Holiday when Compass Presents showcases the results of its A LOVE LETTER TO BROADMEAD project.

The May 1st to 4th programme will be the finale to a month of activity in two empty shop units in The Galleries, involving live broadcasting by Ujima FM, skills workshops, meet-ups, jam sessions and creative experimentation, backed by more than 20 partner organisations, assorted venues and independent artists, and co-curated by teams of young people.

It kicks off on Friday 1 May with The Big Knees-Up, featuring music in The Galleries (4pm to 6pm); street performances by dancers, skateboarders and musicians (6pm to 7pm) then a party with DJs and skater displays at the Shredenhams skate park (7pm on)

The project is an initiative of the Bristol-based independent arts company Compass Presents, commissioned by Bristol City Council and funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and by the West of England Combined Authority.

Tara Sachdeva, Artistic Director of Compass Presents says: “Broadmead is one of the most democratic spaces in Bristol — people from all over the city pass through it every day. Our May Bank Holiday programme offers an exciting way to see it in a diverse and creative new light, take a fresh and vibrant look at the familiar and think about the future possibilities for the area”

All events are free although some may be ticketed. The full programme is still being finalised but to stay up to date with news find/ follow Compass Presents on Facebook &/or Instagram or sign up for the free e-newsletter via the A LOVE LETTER TO BROADMEAD website: https://compasspresents.com/a-love-letter-to-broadmead/.
