Visitors are invited to discover the joy of movement, craft and invention at Circus of Curiosities: An Exhibition of Moving Marvels, opening 4 July 2026 at the American Museum & Gardens in Bath.
This vibrant exhibition celebrates the art of automata – playful, intricate mechanical sculptures brought to life by hand. Created by leading contemporary makers this touring exhibition by Cabaret Mechanical Theatre, invites visitors of all ages to explore a world of animated models, toys and whimsical characters.

Featuring 25 vibrant and witty mechanical sculptures, brought to life at the push of a button or the turn of a handle, the exhibition draws on the spectacle and storytelling of the circus. From hand-cranked delights to surprising interactive moments, each piece reveals the creativity and craftsmanship behind these mesmerising moving artworks.
Visitors are encouraged to engage directly with the displays, discovering the humour, ingenuity and artistry that make every automaton unique. Alongside the exhibition, families can enjoy a dedicated creative play area, offering hands-on opportunities to experiment, build and be inspired, alongside chilling out in the big top.
