Wookey Hole is lifting the curtain on centuries of hidden history with the launch of Wookey Uncovered, a new two-hour premium guided tour offering rare access, rich storytelling and an exclusive tasting experience inside one of Britain’s most iconic cave systems.
Designed primarily for adults, the small-group tour takes visitors deeper into the legendary Mendip caves than ever before. Led by trained heritage guides, guests will explore off-route chambers, witness remarkable geological formations and uncover new and unheard stories of the cave’s early inhabitants, folklore, witchcraft and the people who shaped the Wookey Hole we know today.
The experience continues inside the historic Paper Mill, where guests will experience an exclusive live papermaking demonstration, learning about the historic craftspeople and industry that once powered the site. The tour concludes with a flavour-led finale, where guests can enjoy a pairing of Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar with local Somerset cider, served just metres from where the cheese matures underground.

“Over the past 20 years, Wookey Hole has focused on creating experiences aimed mainly at the family market, Wookey Uncovered is an alternative ticket for visitors who have more interest in the history of our world-famous caves and mill" explains General Manager, Chris Goodchild: “There have been massive changes over the past 30 years and we wanted to create more of a private tour feel for adult visitors to enjoy. And who wouldn’t love the chance to sample our gorgeous cave-aged cheddar cheese and local cider!’
This experience goes beyond the historical and geological. Visitors can find out how a Victorian pier and a Penny Arcade found its way to Wookey Hole, how the Wookey Hole Circus School was founded and how that tradition and the Cottle family legacy still lives on today.
Running from 1 May 2026, Wookey Uncovered offers a new way for visitors to engage with the history, folklore and geology of the famous caves, while supporting the attraction’s long-term ambitions to showcase its heritage as well as its family-favourite experiences. Tickets range from £32.99 for seniors and £34.99 for adults, and tickets for children aged 8+ are £29.99.
