Role: Strategic Cultural Development Producer
Contract: Freelance / Self-employed for a 6-month contract
Time commitment: Approx. 2 days per week (flexible, milestone-based)
Fee: Up to £12,000 (Arts Council England funded).
Location: Bristol (based at Arnolfini, with flexibility)
Deadline: March 7th 2026
Start: April 2026 (by agreement)
The Organisation:
Curiosity UnLtd is Bristol-based grassroots think-and-do tank working at the intersection of art, culture, lived experience, and social justice. We bring people together across sectors to explore how culture can unlock human potential and address inequalities that are too often overlooked within civic and cultural life. This assessment is supported by multiple independent analyses of racial inequality and social mobility in Bristol. Therefore since 2023, we have acted as a trusted civic convener, developing place-based work that connects heritage, culture, and policy
with care, credibility, and ambition.
The Opportunity:
A rare opportunity to shape the foundations of a major place-based cultural and civic initiative at a pivotal moment. Working with a cross-sector consortium of cultural, civic, educational, and corporate partners, you will play a leading role in the development and readiness phase of a proposed UK Capital of Civil Rights for Bristol, laying the groundwork for a longer-term programme through to 2029.
Why Now?
- The next 6–12 months are crucial. There is momentum, credibility, and national attention — but the work needs structure, alignment, and readiness to progress sustainably.
- This role exists to ensure the next phase is well-prepared, fundable, and intentional.
What You’ll Do
In this context Producer refers to cultural and civic development — shaping conditions, partnerships, and investment readiness rather than producing cultural outputs. Over six months, you will:
- Develop a shared cultural roadmap for 2026–2029, marking key civic milestones
- Bring partners together with clarity around priorities, governance, and ways of working
- Shape credible, fundable propositions and a realistic route to income
- Strengthen readiness by aligning people, resources, and support-in-kind
- Leave a clear handover and learning summary to support the next phase
This is a shaping role, not a delivery role. Programme delivery, grant admin, and
post-award management sit elsewhere.
Who This Is For
With a focus on establishing clarity, alignment, and Investability, this role will suit someone who:
- Has worked at the intersection of culture, policy, and decision-making
- Understands how to shape investable ideas in complex funding environments
- Is skilled at convening across sectors and building shared ownership
- Enjoys early-stage, catalytic work and is comfortable with ambiguity
- Is motivated by enabling others rather than owning delivery
You may come from fundraising, partnerships, commissioning, cultural strategy, civic development, or impact investment — but you are not defined by any single pathway.
