A Bristol fish & chip restaurant and seafood kitchen was runner up in Restaurant of the Year on Wednesday at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2026, narrowly missing out to Trenchers of Whitby.

Noah’s, a family-run restaurant tucked under the flyover at Cumberland Basin has been open almost three years, garnering glowing national reviews and industry acclaim during that time. For husband-and-wife team, Dan and Joie Rosser, this week’s 2nd place recognition is another step closer to the top spot in the prestigious competition, after coming 3rd in the same category in 2024.

“When we set out to open Noah’s, we wanted to create a place which we, our team, and the people of Bristol, are proud to have in their city,” says Noah’s chef/owner Dan Rosser. “Naturally being so close, it would have been amazing to clinch first place, but we are over the moon to be ranked 2nd in the UK for Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year. It’s a hell of an achievement and one we’re really proud of, and we couldn’t have done it without our brilliant team and customers who champion us every day. All five finalists are fantastic in their own right – a huge congratulations to Trenchers of Whitby.”

The National Fish & Chip Awards – now in its 38th year – is known for setting the highest standards to help preserve and maintain the much-loved British tradition. Businesses that go beyond just serving fantastic food and are showing that their operations, values and vision are also exceptional, are recognised and rewarded.

The Restaurant of the Year contenders underwent a lengthy programme of assessments, interviews, inspections and mystery taste tests, covering everything from sustainability, leadership, employee training, health and safety, and of course, the full dining journey.

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, says the 2026 edition has been one of the most complex for the judges to separate the winners. “What a year it has been for the National Fish & Chip Awards! We don’t make it easy to progress through the assessments as benchmarks are always set extremely high. This ensures shortlisted businesses and individuals truly know about serving superb quality meals for customers and they are contributing to the growth of sector by innovating where possible, investing in their operations and people, and being exceptional advocates for the trade. We have so much admiration and respect for all our finalists and winners.”

This year’s National Fish & Chip Awards was hosted by broadcaster and actor Stephen Mangan.

As part of their well-earned recognition, Noah’s will join Trenchers and third place runner up, Whitby's Restaurant & Take Away in Rotherham in being treated by Seafood from Iceland to a memorable trip across Iceland’s remote Westfjords, including celebrating Fishermen’s Day in Patreksfjörður.

Noah’s is open Monday – Sunday for lunch, and Monday – Saturday for dinner. The daily changing menu is informed by the best of British fish and seafood landed at the South West coastal markets and the freshest shellfish sourced from Scotland, all served alongside local, seasonal produce. Diners can take advantage of their £14.50 Lock Keeper’s Menu served from 12-3pm daily and early evening 5-6.30pm, Monday – Thursday.
