From Olivier Award nominated playwright Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow, Glorious!) comes a new heart-warming comedy with music, presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions, starring national treasure Maureen Lipman (BAFTA nominee Pianist, Coronation Street, See How They Run, Educating Rita) in the title role of Allegra.

Allegra is full of life, joy and an irresistible urge to sing. She bursts into song at home, in the street, and even in shops and restaurants. Sometimes the music plays only in her imagination, but often it spills into real and disruptive performances that create chaos in her quiet village and amuse, confuse or exasperate everyone she meets. Her brother Ronen and her friend Anna try to keep her exuberance under control while avoiding angry visits from the local policeman. Yet they face an impossible challenge. How can they protect Allegra without dimming the happiness and wonder that fill her heart and define her spirit?

Dame Maureen said today: “To find a comedy which can turn our current face of gloom into an upturned grin of happiness, is rare. Allegra is about a woman who is relentlessly upbeat - in more ways than one. Ibsen it isn’t."

Appearing at the Theatre Royal Bath from Monday 29 June to Saturday 4 July, this moving comedy with lively musical sequences and plenty of laughter, tells the tender and emotional story about family and the support of loved ones.

Tracy-Ann Oberman is set to appear in a new production of Noël Coward’s celebrated Present Laughter. Oberman will star as Geri Essendine in this hilarious portrayal of the temptations and pitfalls of theatrical celebrity, which will visit Bath’s Theatre Royal from Wednesday 26 August to Saturday 5 September.

Geri Essendine is a hugely successful actress who has been 39 for the best part of a decade. Her personality, wit and charm have earned her a legion of devoted fans, young and old, and a coterie of friends, acquaintances and hangers-on. Just as she is about to depart for a tour of Africa, Geri finds herself besieged by a bevvy of would-be lovers, not to mention her long-suffering secretary, estranged husband and an obsessed young playwright. Will she ever disentangle herself from their tightening clutches and incessant demands? And deep down, does she really want to…?

Tracy-Ann Oberman returns to the Theatre Royal Bath stage following her highly acclaimed performance as the first female Shylock in The Merchant of Venice 1936.

Directed by Lindsay Posner, one of the UK’s most sought-after directors, fresh from the West End transfers of Noises Off, A View From The Bridge and The Deep Blue Sea.
