The first Power Town Festival will be family friendly and run from 1pm to 11pm with daytime attractions, including dance, music, food and fun activities.
Headlining in the evening will be Kenny Allstar, host of Radio 1 Xtra’s Rap Shows, and whose Mixtape Madness series Mad About Bars has had over 30 million views on YouTube.
Also headlining, singer-songwriter and rapper Donae’o, who has worked with The Streets and Calvin Harris among others, will be taking to the stage at The Prospect Building on Feeder Road, Bristol, on Saturday, February 15.
Bristol based grassroots artists including Rising soul/DnB vocalist Marns; RNB pop fusion artist Oliva Rose and soul and hip-hop fusion artist Xyzelle, who no doubt will showcase her latest release Guilty & Gorgeous, will also perform on the main stage.
The festival is organised by Creative Power Town, a Bristol Community Interest Company whose Caribbean founder and CEO, Omari Cato, is focused on uniting and celebrating Bristol’s community through creativity, collaboration and culture, with particular emphasis on African and Caribbean history and heritage.
Omari Cato said: “This is a festival for all ages with fun activities for students and families throughout the day with amazing food, an exciting music line-up and DJ sets so everyone can relax, make friends and enjoy themselves.”
The line-up is stacked with grassroots talent from Bristol and artists from Creative Power Town’s artist development programme – a free 12-week initiative where singers, rappers and producers can hone their skills.
Kwazi, Danny A and Sashka Hamilton are among the line-up of local artists who have developed their music and performances through the programme.
The day will also feature a DJ clash between Bristol and Birmingham with four DJs from each city competing for a trophy.
