On Saturday 6 December, Sparks Bristol will transform into a vibrant festive filled with global flavours, handmade gifts and live art - all created and curated by refugee and migrant communities who now call the city home.

Now in its second year and free to attend, Global Gift Fest offers a joyful, meaningful alternative to traditional Christmas shopping. The one-day event celebrates the cultural diversity and creativity that shapes modern Bristol, while supporting emerging artists, makers and food entrepreneurs.

From unique gifts and natural cosmetics to intricate henna designs and live portrait painting, the festival highlights the talent and resilience of local refugee-led businesses and community artists. Food is a major feature again this year, with stalls serving traditional dishes and treats from countries including Mexico, India, Sudan, Colombia, Qatar, Ecuador and Venezuela.

A free drop-in craft workshop, led by Nabil from Bristol Refugee Artists Collective, will run from 12-4pm. Open to all ages, it invites visitors to create and take home their own piece of festive bunting - no booking required.

At its heart, Global Gift Fest is a celebration of Bristol as a welcoming, inclusive city where creativity and community thrive. Many participants have journeyed through displacement, rebuilding their lives here and bringing with them cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit and artistic flair.

Last year’s festival featured Awad Elmubarak, a 15-year-old baker representing the Sudanese community with his handmade pastries. He launched his business online but found a new audience - and new confidence - through the in-person event:

“I started a small business about a year ago; it was quite overwhelming doing all of it online by myself as a 15-year-old,” said Elmubarak. “The Sparks International Cultural Festival really helped me understand there’s more to business than online trading. I met so many people who gave me advice and encouragement. It built my confidence and helped me believe in my ideas.”

Global Gift Fest is a chance to connect with neighbours, support small businesses with powerful stories and experience
