Bristol Jazz Festival continues its new series of intimate shows, Jazz in the Loft, with one of the UK’s most celebrated trombonists, Dennis Rollins MBE. Taking place at the Tobacco Factory Upstairs Studio on Sunday, December 14, this special event follows a string of sold-out editions and offers audiences the chance to experience world-class jazz up close, with a full day of workshops and an evening performance.

Rollins has brought his unmistakable sound to artists including Blur, Jamiroquai and Pee Wee Ellis, while leading a string of acclaimed projects under his own name. A recipient of Trombonist of the Year at the British Jazz Awards and a BBC Jazz Award for Best Band, he has also been honoured with nominations for the Parliamentary Jazz Awards and an MBE for services to music. This December, he brings to Bristol a first-rate band featuring Cameron Pierre on guitar, Tiago Coimbra on bass, and a special guest on drums.

As with previous editions of Jazz in the Loft, Bristol Jazz Festival joins forces with the Bristol Jazz Institute to present a workshop alongside the main performance. This time, musicians of all backgrounds and instruments—brass, woodwind, rhythm section, steel pans and vocalists—are invited to take part in the Calypso Jazz Workshop, an afternoon session led by Dennis Rollins. Participants will delve into the vibrant rhythms of Caribbean calypso and ska, reimagined through a jazz perspective.

Those taking part in the workshop will later be invited to join Rollins and his band on stage as part of the evening performance. Tickets are available separately for the workshop and the concert, or as a combined package for both sessions. Attendance at one does not require attendance at the other.

Capacity for this event is limited, and tickets are expected to sell quickly. Full booking details are available at www.bristoljazzfestival.co.uk/events.
