Ashton Gate Stadium continues to be recognised as a leading international sports venue by being included in the UK’s bid to host the 2035 Women’s Football World Cup.
The Football Associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have today collectively submitted an offer to jointly host the event.
Ashton Gate is the selected venue for a Bristol Council-backed bid to be a host city for the global tournament. The stadium has a proven track record of staging international women’s sporting events and teams, including the Lionesses and the Red Roses twice, and most recently the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Ashton Gate Chief Operating Officer Ross Wormald said: “We are honoured to be included in the UK bid and have worked hard with the city-wide Bristol team to put forward a compelling case for Ashton Gate.
“Hosting two quarter-finals and both semi-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in September, with 92,000 supporters from all over the world coming through the turnstiles, is testament of our ability to deliver a global event and we are hopeful of being included should the UK bid be successful.”
Councillor Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, said: ““We fully back the bid to bring the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035 to the UK in what would be one of the most inclusive, welcoming and inspiring events our country has witnessed. The success of the Lionesses is inspiring and empowering people across the West of England. Our region has seen the number of women’s and girls’ teams double during the past decade with our city being home to Bristol City Women’s Football Club, one of the country’s best supported women’s football teams.
“Our city stands ready to invite the world to experience the very finest West Country welcome and offer the chance to learn, through the power of football, about our diverse communities, and the cultural heritage we share with so many nations across the world. We look forward to supporting the bid and hope to have the chance to be part of what could be one of the biggest sporting events seen on these shores.”
If the UK is granted the World Cup when FIFA makes its decision in April 2026, Ashton Gate would find out if it will make the final cut as one of the tournament venues in approximately 2030. There are currently 22 venues shortlisted in the bid.”
