OUTDOOR INSTRUCTOR - Paternity Cover at Mendip Activity Centre

Location: Mendip Hills National Landscape near Bristol/Cheddar

Contract:  Fixed Term (12th January – 22nd February 2026)

Closing Date: 21st December 2025

Start Date: 12th January 2025

Salary: £3,600 (24 days work during contract dates – Mon to Fri)

Accommodation: Facilities in place for candidates to live on-site in their own van. Alternatively, full-board, en-suite chalet accommodation available for £125 per week.

Mendip is looking to fill a unique position this winter to cover paternity leave for 6 weeks. We are looking for an experienced, motivated and passionate instructor to take on this role at Mendip Activity Centre working on our Accelerated Instructor Training scheme and help us on our mission, the Mendip Way.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced climbing and paddling coach who must have a D1 with CPC to work and train our new instructor candidates in a variety of outdoor environments whilst training towards their foundation instructor qualifications. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team to facilitate these sessions.

Each day will involve transporting the group to different locations where you will then deliver their planned training.

This is more than just a job. You won’t just be an instructor: you’ll be a coach, a facilitator, a mentor, a guide, an inspiration to future instructors.

Your attitude and personality is paramount to us: we’re looking for someone who has a positive outlook, professionalism, promptness and who works well under pressure. You’ll possess strong communication skills, and excellent presentation skills.

About You​

We are looking to employ someone with a number of years experience in outdoor education, including at least 2 years delivering instructor training:

• If you are an experienced instructor/facilitator with high-level qualifications, we may have the perfect role for you, leading our advanced sessions on our Outdoor Instructor Training Courses.

 
Qualifications

This role requires the candidate to be able to drive our PCV registered minibuses each day. 

Minimum Essential Qualifications

• D1 driving licence with up-to-date CPC
• Enhanced DBS
• Paddlesport Touring Leader - Canoe, Kayak & SUP

• RCDI
• Paddlesport Coach/Advanced Leader - Canoe, Kayak & SUP
