The final production in the Ralph Fiennes/Theatre Royal Bath Season is the powerful new drama Small Hotel, written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and starring Ralph Fiennes, which makes its world premiere on stage at Bath’s Theatre Royal from Friday 3 to Saturday 18 October. The cast is completed by Francesca Annis, Rosalind Eleazar and Rachel Tucker.
Larry is an acclaimed TV celebrity, whose life and career are rapidly unravelling. As he is forced to unpick his past and confront his future, we meet a collection of unforgettable characters, including Larry's troubled twin brother Richard, his unpredictable former lover, and his domineering mother.

Performing the role of Larry is Ralph Fiennes, whose distinguished stage work is matched by performances in some of the greatest films of our time. The winner of a Tony Award for playing Hamlet, he has worked extensively in theatre, where his many credits include Antony and Cleopatra, Richard III and The Master Builder. Last year he starred in the title role in Shakespeare’s Macbeth alongside Indira Varma as Lady Macbeth, with performances in Liverpool, Edinburgh, London and Washington DC. His numerous film roles include Conclave, The Return, a BAFTA Award-winning performance in Schindler’s List, The English Patient, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Constant Gardner, Skyfall, the Harry Potter series of films, In Bruges and The Dig.
Francesca Annis, who plays the role of Athena, has established herself as one of our most acclaimed actresses, since her first major film role alongside Elizabeth Taylor in the epic Cleopatra (20th Century Fox). A stellar stage career with the RSC and National Theatre encompassed many iconic roles including Juliet opposite Ian McKellen’s Romeo in Romeo and Juliet. A six-time BAFTA TV award nominee, winning for the ITV series Lillie, other notable screen roles range from an acclaimed Lady Macbeth in Roman Polanski’s Macbeth, to co-starring with Michael Gambon and Judi Dench in the BBC series Cranford.

Playing the role of Marianne is Rosalind Eleazar who amongst others has recently starred in Slow Horses (Apple TV+), alongside Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden and Harlen Coben’s Missing You (Netflix). Her theatre credits include the National Theatre’s The House of Bernada Alba, and Uncle Vanya at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
Olivier Award nominee Rachel Tucker, who performs as Ava and others, has numerous theatre credits to her name including The Great Gatsby (London Coliseum) playing Myrtle, Hadestown (Lyric Theatre) as Persephone, Sunset Boulevard (Savoy Theatre) as Norma Desmond, Come From Away (West End/Broadway) - 2019 Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical and 2020 WhatsOnStage Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical; Wicked (West End, Broadway, London 10th Anniversary cast) as Elphaba, with TV appearances including Call The Midwife (BBC), and work in film which includes: Wicked and Frayed (Horizon Film).
Writer, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, is an acclaimed playwright and screenwriter whose work has been performed all over the world. With Her Naked Skin in 2008, Rebecca became the first living female playwright to have an original play performed on the National Theatre’s Olivier stage. Her other original plays include: The Night Season, Winner of Critics Circle Most Promising Playwright Award 2004 and nominated for an Evening Standard and the Susan Smith Blackburn Award (Cottesloe Theatre, National Theatre); Shoreditch Madonna (Soho Theatre); The Painter (Arcola Theatre).
Director, Holly Race Roughan, is the Artistic Director of award-winning touring theatre company Headlong, for which she has directed numerous productions. These include The House Party (Chichester Festival Theatre & UK Tour), A View from the Bridge (Bolton Octagon & UK Tour), Henry V (Shakespeare’s Globe & UK Tour), Corrina Corrina (Liverpool Everyman), Hedda Tesman (Chichester Festival Theatre), People, Places & Things (UK Tour), and Unprecedented (BBC). Holly’s other works include The New Real (Royal Shakespeare Company), Metamorphoses (Shakespeare’s Globe), Prurience (Southbank Centre, Guggenheim New York), and Eye of a Needle (Southwark Playhouse).
The world class creative team includes set designer Bob Crowley, costume design by Loren Elstein, lighting design by Sally Ferguson, composer and sound designer is Max Pappenheim, movement director is Sarah Fahie, video design is by Luke Halls, hair and makeup design is by Susanna Peretz, casting director is Amy Ball CDG, associate director is Emily Ling Williams, associate set designer is Rosalind Coombes, intimacy director is Haruka Kuroda, with Joseph Atkins as Song Coach and Aundrea Fudge as Voice and Dialect Coach.
