From lush forest clearings to windswept hilltops, the UK’s love affair with the great outdoors is stronger than ever. According to OS Maps, last year’s August bank holiday saw over 100,000 new walking routes created as Brits swapped their sofas for scenic trails. In warmer months, walking routes that feature the word ‘pub’ in the title jump by 83% – proof that many adventures are planned with a pint in mind.
Recent Thatchers research echoes this love for al fresco sipping. 41% of drinkers say the pub garden is their favourite spot for a pint, 20% choose the beach, and others name everything from a campsite to a mountain peak as their ideal drinking destination.
To celebrate this outdoor spirit, Thatchers is bringing the ‘Wild Pint’ to life – those spontaneous, scenic moments when great cider meets great views. From 1st September, anyone finishing an adventure at selected pubs across the UK can enjoy a complimentary pint of Thatchers Juicy Apple – all they need to do is ask for a Wild Pint.
The pubs taking part include:
- The Turfcutters Arms (New Forest, SO42 7WL) – surrounded by forest walks and hiking trails
- The Old Gate Inn (Peak District, DE4 4HJ) – a favourite stop-off for hikers and climbers
- Ring O’ Bells (Kendal, LA9 5AF) – perfectly placed for Lake District adventures
- WAX (Watergate Bay, TR8 4AB) – where surfers can finish with a pint
- The Railway Inn (Sandford, BS25 5RA) – set on the scenic Strawberry Line cycle and walking route
- Land’s End Hotel & Bar (Cornwall, TR19 7AD) – Britain’s most south-westerly pint
Eleanor Thatcher, fifth generation cidermaker at Thatchers said: “Our Wild Pints are all about celebrating nature, great cider and a sense of adventure. As a family owned cidermaker rooted in the Somerset countryside, the outdoors is part of who we are, from the orchards we’ve grown for over a century to the landscapes that inspire us every day.
“At this time of year as the harvest begins, what better way is there to celebrate than enjoying a pint of cider, soaking up the last of the summer sun, out in the wild, where our apples are grown?”
