Job Title: Volunteer Manager (Part-Time – 26 Days Per Year)
Location: Bristol (with travel to events across the city and wider region)
Fee: £130 per day, freelance basis (Total: 52 days across 2 years)

Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and organised Volunteer Manager to lead the development and coordination of our volunteer programme. You will work directly with a dynamic and diverse group of volunteers, including migrants, refugees, and people from marginalised backgrounds, supporting them to engage meaningfully in our activities and with major festivals like DIASPORA!, St Pauls Carnival, Glastonbury, WOMAD, and others.
The role focuses on empowering volunteers through skills development, training, wellbeing support, and participation in organisational development.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Coordination:
- Recruit, induct, and manage volunteers across a range of community and festival events.
- Ensure volunteer roles are clearly defined, inclusive, and well supported.
- Maintain regular communication through WhatsApp, email, newsletters, and in-person briefings.
Volunteer Development:
- Support volunteers to access formal training (e.g., safeguarding, first aid).
- Facilitate access to wellbeing and development days, including transport and meal coordination.
- Encourage participation in leadership roles, including organisational subgroups or the board.
Programme Management:
- Plan and deliver a cohesive year-round volunteer programme that aligns with the organisation’s goals.
- Coordinate certification and recognition for volunteer achievements.
- Oversee logistics such as branded equipment (e.g., hi-vis vests, walkie-talkies) and travel support.
Partnerships & Outreach:
- Strengthen relationships with local festivals, venues, and organisations to expand volunteer opportunities.
- Develop reciprocal partnerships that provide meaningful progression for volunteers.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Collect feedback through surveys, 1:1 check-ins, and consultation events.
- Track volunteer participation, training, and progression to evaluate the programme’s impact.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Proven experience coordinating volunteer programmes, ideally in community or cultural settings.
- Strong understanding of inclusive practices, with a commitment to equity and accessibility.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desireable:
- Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, or marginalised communities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding protocols and health and safety in community events.
- Connections with Bristol’s arts and festival networks.
Working Pattern:
- Freelance, flexible schedule (approx. 2–3 days/month)
- Some evening and weekend availability required around key events
- Travel costs and necessary equipment provided
