About Citizens for Culture

Citizens for Culture is an innovative project that puts local people at the heart of decision-making about creativity and culture across the West of England. Using the model of a Citizens’ Assembly, people from all walks of life, from across the region, will come together to deliberate and make recommendations on how creative opportunities can be made inclusive and accessible for everyone in the region.

The lead organisation for Citizens for Culture is Trinity Community Arts working with partners including Citizens In Power and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. The project is designed to empower citizens, particularly those from underrepresented groups, by giving them real influence over decisions, funding, and cultural priorities in their area. Key values underpinning Citizens for Culture include:

  • Representation: Citizens shaping decisions that affect their lives.
  • Innovation: Trying new approaches to participatory democracy.
  • Equity: Ensuring everyone has an equal voice and opportunities.
