The search is on for 10 lucky children to join TV adventurer Andy Day on an exciting mission at Bristol Zoo Project.
A new competition is being launched today to coincide with the opening of Andy’s Adventures: Explorer Trail at the zoo, on July 19.
The trail, which is inspired by the hugely popular CBeebies series Andy’s Adventures, will give families the opportunity to find Andy’s backpack, gizmo and hat in his Explorer Cabin, discover how to track animals, and learn how to identify animals through investigating their poo.
To celebrate its opening, Bristol Zoo Project is offering 10 lucky fans the chance to meet their hero in person and explore the new trail with Andy, who is also an ambassador for the zoo.
The explorer trail will run throughout the summer and autumn, until November 2. As families step into Andy’s shoes, they’ll also be able to ‘shrink down’ like Andy and pretend to go back in time with the famous museum clock.
The competition to win the chance to meet Andy Day goes live on the zoo’s website today (Tuesday 1 July) and closes on Tuesday 22 July. Ten lucky winners will be invited to visit Bristol Zoo Project later this year to meet Andy and join him on the explorer trail. Full details and information on how to enter, can be found on the Bristol Zoo Project website: www.bristolzoo.org.uk.

Ahead of the competition launch, Andy said: “I’m really excited to see this new trail taking shape at Bristol Zoo Project. We absolutely love making the show and are really proud of it, so to see it come to life in such a unique way, ready for families to explore and enjoy over the summer, is really special.
“I’m a proud ambassador and regular visitor to the zoo with my family. We love seeing all the different animals from around the world, with the giraffes and bears being among our favourites. I’m looking forward to meeting the competition winners so we can go on our own adventure and try out the trail for ourselves!”
Andy is an ambassador for the zoo, which is run by conservation and education charity Bristol Zoological Society.
Rosie Sims, Public Engagement Manager, from Bristol Zoo Project, said: “We are all thrilled to be launching the Andy’s Adventures trail and the competition to join him on the trail is already causing quite a buzz at the zoo - we are expecting quite a few entries!
“What makes this trail experience so unique is that it combines themes from the show with stories related to our animals here at Bristol Zoo Project. Through interactive games and activities, we hope to not only inspire families to go on an adventure but also learn more about the different animals living at the zoo and become keen conservationists themselves, like Andy.”
Bristol Zoo Project is home to animals from around the world including giraffe, cheetah, red panda, zebra, deer, ostrich, gelada baboons and lemurs. It also includes the award-winning Bear Wood, which is home to brown bears, lynxes, wolverines and wolves.
Currently, 85% of animals at the zoo are both threatened and part of targeted conservation programmes. The Society’s aim is for this to rise to 90% of species by 2035.
The zoo is currently undergoing a major transformation. Work is underway on an African Forest habitat, where the zoo’s troop of Critically Endangered western lowland gorillas will be joined by Endangered cherry-crowned mangabey monkeys, for the first time in a UK zoo. It will also become home to Critically Endangered slender-snouted crocodiles and several extremely threatened species of West African freshwater fish. Endangered African grey parrots, which have been rescued from the illegal wildlife trade, will also be living in the habitat.
Andy’s Adventures series are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
