Families are invited to step into the past, get creative, and explore the world of art and archaeology this May half-term at two of Bath’s cultural attractions – The Roman Baths and Victoria Art Gallery.
Councillor Paul Roper, Cabinet Member for Economic & Cultural Sustainable Development, said:

At the Roman Baths
This half-term, journey back to Roman Britain with interactive trails, crafty workshops, and the chance to meet characters from the past.
Highlights include:
- Archaeology Adventures
27 – 30 May
Budding archaeologists can dig for replica Roman artefacts in a specially designed excavation trench. This hands-on activity takes place in the Investigation Zone, giving young explorers the chance to uncover the secrets of Roman life.

Encounter costumed characters and learn what life was like for the people of Aquae Sulis. - Follow Luna’s Trail
Embark on a new interactive trail guided by Luna, the Roman goddess of the moon. Illustrated by local artist Ben Pulletz, this celestial-themed adventure links Roman culture with the mysteries of the night sky. - Make a Roman Brooch
28 – 29 May, 10am–12noon & 2pm–4pm
Get crafty and create a glittering Roman brooch inspired by an artefact found in the spring.

Let imaginations soar with stories of Roman life narrated by former Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen. Free with admission. - Activity Book

At Victoria Art Gallery
Discover the newly reopened Upper Gallery, enjoy hands on craft in The Modelling Room, and be inspired by the art of printmaking in the First Impressions exhibition.

In the new Modelling Room, children can use ink and stamps to create a unique print, then decorate a funky frame to take home.

Head to the new Art Explorer family area in the Upper Gallery to dress up, play with arty toys, and get inspired by the paintings around you.

Discover the world of printmaking in First Impressions: Printers’ Proofs of Works by Great 20th Century Artists, or explore the permanent collection upstairs.

The Roman Baths is open daily from 9am – 6pm, Victoria Art Gallery is open from 10.30am – 5pm Tuesday – Sunday, plus Bank Holiday Monday.
