This May half term, families are invited to dive into the fascinating world of the ocean’s smallest, but most mighty, residents, as Bristol Aquarium launches an exciting new programme, Micro Marvels, celebrating plankton, baby sea creatures, and the microscopic lifeforms that sustain our seas.

Running daily throughout the May school break, the Micro Marvels event includes interactive workshops, fun educational talks, and hands-on activities designed to engage young minds with the incredible biodiversity beneath the waves.

“People are, rightly, fascinated about the big and beautiful creatures of the sea such as sharks, rays and whales; but this half term, we’re zooming in on the tiny heroes of the ocean,” said Mark Iwachiw, General Manager at Bristol Aquarium. “Plankton and microscopic organisms produce much of the world’s oxygen and form the foundation of marine life. It’s a perfect theme for curious kids and eco-conscious families.”

Throughout the week long event children can inspect real marine samples, and discover what life looks like under the lens at a daily Microscope workshop.

Meet the aquarium’s newest arrivals, beautiful sea nettles and moon jellyfish, and learn how these graceful creatures begin life as planktonic babies at the daily jellyfish talk.

Get creative making your own octopus with movable arms at the paper octopus craft session.

Take the tiny trail and match marine babies with their grown-up counterparts across our seven immersive bio-zones.

The aquarium's holiday spotlight is directing visitors to discover the work of the Padstow Lobster Hatchery and learn all about how they are helping to protect vulnerable marine species.

Alongside the themed activities, visitors can enjoy all of the aquarium’s usual exhibits, talks, and animal feeds, including thousands of incredible creatures from oceans near and far.

The Micro Marvels event is included with aquarium admission and runs from 24 May to 1 June.

Bristol Aquarium is situated on the historic harbourside and takes visitors on an underwater adventure through the world’s oceans. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.bristolaquarium.co.uk or call 0117 929 8929.
