Things are getting mythical at Bristol Aquarium during May half term.

Mythical May
The attraction, home to over 40 different displays and thousands of creatures, will be welcoming one more star at the end of the month - a magical Mermaid with a mysterious quest for anyone willing to accept.

Some crafty seahorses have pinched the mermaid’s magical word!

Following a seahorse trail throughout the aquarium, with facts about how seahorses have appeared in myths and legends throughout the world, visitors will have the opportunity to piece the magic word back together to help the mermaid on her way.

It won’t just be the legend of the seahorse that visitors will be able to discover on their visit.

Which culture believed that sharks carried the souls of their ancestors?

Which sea creature is said to come from the ear of an ancient dragon and fell from the sky?

Which frog headed God was a symbol of fertility in ancient Egypt?

Visitors will be able to find out the answers to these questions and more as they explore fun and educational facts all about the myths and legends behind some of the aquarium’s most popular species.

“At Bristol Aquarium we’re very proud to be the leading breeders of big bellied seahorses in the UK. Being such an ethereal and mysterious looking creature, it’s unsurprising that seahorses are the subject of myths and legends wherever they appear throughout the world. The stories behind these species are fascinating and we hope that understanding these mythological tales will help people to understand our human relationship with these creatures a little more.” - Oliver Treasure-Smith, Marketing Manager at Bristol Aquarium

Bristol Aquarium is situated on the historic harbourside and takes visitors on an underwater adventure through the world’s oceans. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.bristolaquarium.co.uk or call 0117 929 8929.
