The team at The Wave – the ‘slice of the ocean’ in Bristol – is gearing up for the Easter holidays, with some exciting new developments on the horizon.

The Wave uses amazing technology to create surfing waves for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities - from a beginner stepping on a board for the first time, to a professional training for the Olympics. The 180m long lake is at its heart, but The Wave is not just about surfing. It's about sharing incredible experiences in a naturally healthy space and reaping the positive health and wellbeing benefits of being in or near water. And it's about helping people have a shedload of fun in the process!

New Little Rippers Surf Lessons – available to book from March

Introducing Little Rippers - a brand-new surfing experience tailored to younger children. The lessons are aimed at primary school aged children, accompanied by an adult, and are a great first step on the surfing journey, as well as a special bonding opportunity for parent and child.

Until now the first surfing experience at The Wave has been a Beginner Lesson, open to those who are 6 and over.

Little Rippers is a chance for kids as young as 4 to take to the waves with their parents and build water confidence.

The sessions last 1.5hrs and include dryland coaching, followed by an hour in the water. There are two coaches to 10 children, ensuring a safe and brilliantly fun atmosphere, as well as plenty of support catching those first waves!

A Little Rippers lesson costs from £60 for a combo parent and child ticket – all equipment and wetsuits are included. The lessons are available from 28th March.

Surf Therapy Workshop - 30 March

Following on from the success of the 2023 event we are running another Working with Grief workshop with the brilliant team at Resurface.

Their unique approach to psychotherapy is based on research showing that being in a flow state before having therapy makes the process far more impactful and allows you to open up more quickly. Resurface retreats focus on integrating flow through surfing, developing resilience, encouraging introspection, and engagement in experiential group therapy.

The workskop at The Wave came about on the back of work with Rev Richard Coles for his Channel 4 documentary Good Grief. The day involves surfing, yoga and deep relaxation, alongside psycho-education and group work to explore the nature of grief and how to move through any blocks in the grieving process. Whether it’s a recent tragedy or the wound of an old loss that has been lingering, this day can help the journey of healing.

The Easter Trail is a free activity to encourage younger visitors to get active and explore the site - and keep them amused whilst parents enjoy a surf session, lake-side coffee, lunch or post surf drink with a view.

Cold Dip and Sauna Joy!

The Wave has also recently launched its Cold Water Dip experience for those who don’t want to surf but are keen to get the many benefits of cold-water immersion. With mounting research that cold water is good for us, it’s time to embrace the chill and step out of your comfort zone! The newly installed saunas will be open throughout the Easter holidays and are free to use after your cold dip or surf session – the perfect way to warm up with a view of the beautiful lake setting.
