Noah’s, a family-run restaurant tucked under the flyover at Cumberland Basin has been open just six months and is now one step closer to the top spot in the prestigious competition. They’re up against Eric’s Fish and Chips in Hunstanton, Knights Fish Restaurant in Glastonbury, Cirencester’s Malt and Anchor and Torquay-based Pier Point Restaurant. Over the last couple of months, renowned names from the fish and chip industry have challenged the businesses, with deep-dive explorations to analyse their sector knowledge, implementation of industry best practice and employer responsibilities, to name a few of the benchmarks.

Dan Rosser, who opened Noah’s in May this year with his wife Joie, said: “Reaching the Top 10 is an incredible achievement but to be recognised as one of the Top 5 Fish & Chip Restaurants in the UK is something we could have only dreamed of.

“We won’t get too carried away, we’ll carry on doing what we do day in and day out, and if it’s good enough to take us further then that would be amazing, but Joie and I are super proud of the team for taking us this far and putting Noah’s on the map in such a short space of time. We’re up against some fantastic restaurants and we can’t wait to meet them all in London on awards night.”

President of the National Federation of Fish Friers, and awards organiser, Andrew Crook, says of the lineup: “Congratulations to our five finalists! Restaurant of the Year has once again been a very popular category and it has been a great pleasure to gain a better understanding of each business and learn about the people who serve top-quality meals to happy customers. Their unshakeable dedication to the foodservice industry has seen them reach the final stages and we couldn’t be happier for them.”

The mystery visits portion of the judging is up next, and the pressure will be on for the five chippies to maintain great standards and customer service, as this will seal the fate for who takes the crown.

The winner will be announced at the National Fish and Chip Awards ceremony on 28 February 2024 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.

Noah’s is open Tuesday – Sunday for lunch, and Tuesday – Saturday for dinner. The daily changing menu is informed by the best of British fish and seafood landed at the South West coastal markets and the freshest shellfish sourced from the icy waters of Scotland, all served alongside local, seasonal produce. Diners can take advantage of their Lock Keeper’s Lunch special for £12.95, served from 12-3pm daily, or try their new early bird Teatime Menu, featuring a choice of à la carte mains with a beer or house wine for £15, running from Tuesday – Thursday from 5 – 6.30pm.
