A new exhibition is opening at Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury just in time for visitors to acquire some beautiful Christmas gifts for family and friends.
‘Finding Solace and Joy’ is the first solo exhibition by Exmoor-based artist Jill Davies. It brings together more than 40 prints, paintings and mixed media works inspired by the solace the artist has found in the Somerset countryside. All the artworks on display will be for sale, and there will be cards, unframed prints, and a calendar available to purchase from the Museum shop. The exhibition is open from 9 December 2023 to 17 February 2024.
Jill’s background is in teaching and art psychotherapy. Four years ago, she realised that this work was taking its toll and she needed a change. Jill moved to Somerset and found that her new surroundings on Exmoor provided the peace and creative inspiration she needed to restart her life as an artist. The exhibition demonstrates Jill’s development as an artist and includes botanical studies, eco prints made from organic matter, collagraph prints and lino prints.
Jill Davies said: “Exmoor is a magical, ancient place brimming with atmosphere. In a world which can feel increasingly challenging, my work celebrates and reflects the solace and joy to be found in nature and art.”
Jill has embraced the creative community of Somerset since moving to the county. She is actively involved with Somerset Art Works and is a member of the Albatross Print Studio at East Quay, Watchet.
Jill will be at Somerset Rural Life Museum on Saturday 9 December from 10am – 2pm to chat to visitors about her work. Normal Museum admission applies. Museum Unlimited pass holders go free.
