RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Duty Manager will support the Operations Team to ensure compliance and best practice across all areas of the operations. You will support the Head of Operations with the running of the Theatre Bar, FOH areas and FOH team, ensuring income targets are met and compliance and best practice is achieved at all times.

As Duty Manager you will act as the most senior member of staff during performances and live events in our Theatres. You will be responsible for supervising the Front of House Assistants while on shift, supporting rota management and opening and closing the building.

You will support the Front of House Assistants working on the Theatre Bar and work closely with the Technical, Box Office and Sales teams to ensure the Theatre runs smoothly at all times.

MAIN DUTIES

As Duty Manager:

  • Work alongside the Box Office and Technical departments to ensure the smooth running of the Theatre during performances and live events
  • Welcome Visiting Companies and assist with inductions if required
  • Perform pre-opening safety checks to ensure the Theatres are safe and ready to welcome audiences
  •  Be the appointed person for leading on first aid, incidents or evacuations
  • Work with the Front of House Assistants to upsell drinks, merchandise and programmes
  • Cash up and reconcile shift takings and prepare the shift report
  • Have key-holding responsibilities, including locking up the building at the end of the shift
  •  Represent the Theatre in a helpful and friendly manner
  •  Positively and proactively respond to customer needs and enquiries

As Senior Duty Manager:

  • Assist the Head of Operations by overseeing the smooth running of the Theatre Bar, ensuring the bar runs to its full potential at all times
  • Compile staff availability and coordinate rotas to ensure all shifts are fully staffed
  • Arrange cover or cover cancelled shifts if required
  •  Perform monthly stock takes, with the support of the Duty Management team
  • Reconcile weekly bar takings and compile spend reports
  • Weekly bar maintenance including line cleaning and regular checks
  • Ensure fixtures, fittings and equipment in the Theatre Bar and FOH areas are in good working order at all times

The Tobacco Factory would like to hear from people who have:

  • Proven experience in FOH Management in Arts & Theatre Environments
  • Experience in conflict resolution and customer service
  • Proven leadership experience and qualities
  • Experience as bar supervisor
  • Strong beverage knowledge
  • Good knowledge of maintaining draught systems & line cleaning
  • Strong skills in upselling techniques
  •  Working knowledge of licensing objectives
  • An in-date First Aid certificate
  • Passion to create a supportive & inspiring environment which is accessible and inclusive to all

Role Hours:

During October, you will work 3 shifts a week to learn the role, initially shadowing and then running shifts. Over the Christmas period you will work between 30 & 40 hours per week, but not exceeding 40 hours.

Key Information:

Hourly Rate: £13.20

Per Hour Contract: Fixed until 24/01/2024 (with a view to extend)

Probationary Period: 1 month

Place of Work: Tobacco Factory Theatres, Raleigh Road, Bristol, BS3 1TF

Start date: ASAP following interview which are due to take place on the 18th and 19th of October 2023.
