Award-winning family ice cream maker, Marshfield Farm Ice Cream, has joined forces with Bristol Zoological Society (BZS) to launch a competition for the public to name a range of ice creams, inspired by animals native to the UK. The competition, running from 7 June to 20 June 2023, is to celebrate a three-year partnership between the two partners pledging to support native species wildlife projects.

Marshfield Farm Ice Cream creates fun and indulgent ice creams that make everyone in the family happy, even the dog! Every drop of milk in their ice cream can be traced back to their herd of 250 cows, and so happy cows and the highest animal welfare standards has always been at the heart of the Marshfield Farm story.

This passion for animal wellbeing is what makes the charity partnership with Bristol Zoological Society (BZS) so special. As a conservation and education charity, BZS’s mission is to save wildlife through conservation research science, the protection of species and habitats, while educating and inspiring a new generation of wildlife warriors.

Visitors to Wild Place Project (to be called Bristol Zoo Project from summer 2023) have been enjoying Marshfield Farm Ice Cream for almost 10 years. The two teams have formed a strong relationship and this year are launching bespoke animal-themed ice cream names. The ice cream will be available to enjoy at Wild Place Project and also celebrates the creation of a new conservation zoo at the site, with construction expected to start in 2024.

The winners will also receive a month’ supply of Marshfield Farm Ice Cream and tickets to Wild Place Project.

With flavours such as StrawBEARy, and Red Deer Raspberry already in the mix, the competition offers the chance to ‘Name it Native’ and asks for the public to submit name suggestions for the Marshfield Farm Plant Based range, inspired by species native to the UK.

Available to rename are Plant Based Vanilla, Plant Based Strawberry, Plant Based Mint Choc and Plant Based Salted Caramel.

Marshfield Farm Ice Cream are specifically supporting BZS’s Native Species Programme supporting conservation projects, currently focused on protecting the endangered white-clawed crayfish, the UK’s only indigenous freshwater crayfish, and wildlife surveying and monitoring and Habitat management across the Avon Gorge, Clifton Down and Durdham Downs in Bristol.

The family ice cream makers have also formalised a long-standing partnership with charity, Jamie’s Farm, a charity dedicated to supporting disadvantaged young people to thrive at school and beyond.

The owners of Jamie's Farm and Marshfield Farm Ice Cream are long-time friends and have now formalised a charity partnership, committing to a three-year relationship, with Marshfield Farm providing a substantial financial donation to support Jamie's Farm and their initiatives.

Dawn Hawking, Owner of Marshfield Farm Ice Cream said: “We are so excited to partner with two amazing charities and thrilled we can give back to causes that have always been part of the Marshfield Farm story and that we know are close to our team and wider community’s hearts.”

Justin Morris, CEO of Bristol Zoological Society said: “Our journey to develop a new conservation zoo at Wild Place Project starts this summer, when we rename the site Bristol Zoo Project, before construction starts in 2024. It’s an exciting time and we are so pleased that visitors and supporters like Marshfield are coming on the journey with us.”

Jamie Feilden, Founder of Jamie’s Farm said “We are thrilled to have the support of Marshfield Farm Ice Cream over the next 3 years, at a time when we are working to reach more vulnerable children and young people with our transformational residential programme than ever before. We share a passion for regenerative farming practices and educating the next generation, and we are excited to share this with Marshfield’s customers, enabling us to achieve greater impact together.”
