IKEA Bristol is welcoming a herd of unicorns to its store as it marks the launch of Unicornfest with a funfair, magical trail, free activities and instore offers for local families to enjoy.

The retailer is supporting the event, which takes place every two years in aid of UK leukemia charity, Leukemia Care, by sponsoring the design of two, two-metre-high unicorns which will be in residence at the store until 3rd September. They will later be auctioned, with proceeds going to fundraising efforts for the charity. ,

The IKEA unicorns, named ‘Lunacorn’ and ‘Attic Treasure’, were decorated by local artist, Amy Magee, and IKEA’s Visual Merchandiser, Natasha Tallon. With designs inspired by space, and nostalgic folk art, the unicorns will be based at the Bristol store, forming part of the wider Unicornfest trail, which comprises 60 custom-painted unicorns dotted across the south-west.

Also on display at IKEA Bristol are a herd of smaller foals, which were decorated by pupils from schools all across Bristol. The 28 foals will be hidden throughout the store, making up a free, mini in-store trail which runs until 3rd September with an activity sheet for families to follow along, hunt them down and discover the magic.

IKEA Family members can access exclusive discounts on completion of the activity sheet, with £5 off when they spend £50 and over, and £10 off when they spend £100 and over, from 4th September to 30th September, as a money saving for locals.

A balloon artist and face painter will also be at the launch event, in the car park outside IKEA Bristol on 1st July. Families can enjoy a carousel ride, along with games such as coconut shy, ball in the bucket and spin to win. Instore will be arts and crafts activities, hook the duck, and unicorn-themed sweet treats.

IKEA Family members will have free entry to the activities running at the launch party. Visitors can show their IKEA Family card to be given access to the funfair ground. All activities are free to IKEA Family members only, however, visitors can simply sign up to be a member for free on the day and take part.

Andrias O’Shaughnessy, Market and Sustainability Manager at IKEA Bristol, said: “We are thrilled to be part of the 2023 Unicornfest trail and to support this incredible cause. IKEA has been in Bristol for almost 25 years and we’re proud to be a part of this vibrant community.

“We’re very excited to give our customers the opportunity to come and visit the unicorns, ‘Lunacorn’ and ‘Attic Treasure’, which boast impressive and creative designs by Bristol artist, Amy MaGee, and our talented colleague, Natasha Tallon. We can’t wait for families to see them, and to enjoy our free, mini unicorn trail, running in store as part of the celebrations.”

Jodie Hancock Project Manager at Unicornfest, said: "We're delighted to be working with IKEA as our Presenting Partner - we're building a fantastic relationship, flat packed with amazing ideas, which will be the cherry on the cake, or even the horn on the unicorn, this summer in Bristol."

Unicornfest looks to bring members the business and creative sectors together with schools and the local community. This year, it’s joining the 650th anniversary celebrations for Bristol. The trail will end with a festival in Queen’s Square followed by an auction of the unicorns with proceeds going to fundraising efforts for Leukemia Care.
