Audiences can experience a stunning video installation in Family Portrait at The Egg from Saturday 17 to Friday 30 June, where, surrounded by four screens and seated on swivelling stools, children aged 4 years and over can follow a family through choreographed sequences as they encounter the many different landscapes of Scotland.

Awarded five-stars by The Stage, Family Portrait immerses audiences in a mesmerizing journey of choreography and imagery, capturing the intimate moments shared by Barrowland Ballet's Artistic Director, Natasha Gilmore and her three children. Through intricate soundscapes, a series of narratives unfold, celebrating getting out into nature, with humour and candour. The installation shares an honest depiction of what family really is.

Audiences will be transported through a series of choreographed sequences and genuine, unscripted moments that unveil the family's encounters with Scotland's diverse landscapes. From breath-taking panoramic views to the hidden treasures of nature, viewers will witness the children's playful exploration of rabbit skulls, heart-warming conversations with spiders, the creation of whimsical war paint using vibrant berries and the joyous discovery of burying their mother in comforting bark.

Beyond its visual splendour, Family Portrait takes audiences on an emotional and geographical odyssey, providing an in-depth insight into the profound experiences of a mother and single parent, raising three young children. This captivating work invites viewers to delve into the joys, responsibilities, and delicate balance of family life, showcasing the authentic essence of what it truly means to love and care for one another.

An audience member said: "It makes you want to get out into the woods and play with sticks and mud and moss and all the things you used to do as a child. It's a really beautiful portrait of family life."

This extraordinary installation is a celebration of embracing the great outdoors, inviting audiences on an intimate journey through the complex and beautiful tapestry of family relationships – a journey that effortlessly blends relentless chaos with glorious harmony.

Family Portrait is the winner of a prestigious ‘Best of the Fest’ Broadway Baby Bobby Award at Edinburgh Fringe 2021 and all screenings are captioned and audio described.
