Since 2003, People 1st International has conducted regular large-scale national surveys to provide a comprehensive picture of new and emerging workforce challenges across hospitality, tourism, travel, aviation and retail.

Today (24 May) it launches its 2023 State of the Workforce Survey to investigate skills gaps and workforce issues across the visitor economy sector to help employers across the sector to better address their workforce needs, directly informing the decisions they make with regard to skills development.

“For over 20 years our research has helped shape the delivery of workforce initiatives and people strategies, supporting employers to make evidence-based decisions and to target effective resources in their efforts to improve the workplace,” says Jane Rexworthy, Executive Director, People 1st International.

“Given the current recruitment and retention challenges that the sector is facing, the intelligence to better understand the complex skills issues that leaders need to address is more important than ever.” Jane continues.

For every completed survey response, People 1st International will donate 20p to charity - Hospitality Action, Retail Trust, Abta LifeLine, or Aviation Action.

The State of the Workforce Survey is open to all employers in the UK hospitality, tourism, travel, aviation and retail sectors.

Responses will be treated in strictest confidence and the anonymised data will form part of an evidence base to influence business leaders, local, regional and national bodies as they set their workforce priorities for the future.

The survey is a mix of free-text and multiple-choice questions and should take around 15 minutes to complete.
