Excitement is building in Bath with just 100 days to go until the UIPM Modern Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships 2023 get underway in the city.

While spectators can look forward to enjoying world-class sport and a family-friendly day out, with tickets on sale now, competitors – including the Pentathlon GB home team – are gearing up for a shot at global glory and Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualification.

Myles Pillage is among the British athletes hoping to make the most of home advantage when the Championships take place at the University of Bath, Pentathlon GB’s National Training Centre, from 19 to 28 August.

“It’s going to be an amazing event,” said Pillage, who won double relay gold when the University hosted the European Championships in 2019. “The crowd was immense four years ago and I'm looking forward to the same great turnout and atmosphere this summer.”

This year’s Modern Pentathlon World Championships are the first to be staged in Britain since 2009 and will be contested in the new, action-packed 90-minute format. From 22nd to 28th August, spectators will watch the fencing, horse-riding and laser run live from their seats in an outdoor arena at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, while the swimming section – taking place in the University’s Olympic-sized pool – will be broadcast via a large video screen in the stadium.

Pillage added: “Spectators are sure to have a thrilling experience. The new format gives people the opportunity to see world-class athletes do five different sporting disciplines, all from one seat.”

The Laser Run World Championships (19th to 21st August) combine running and shooting in fast-paced races and will also include a Para Laser Run category for the first time ever.

Interactive ‘have a go’ sessions will run alongside the competitive events to give spectators the chance to discover the five pentathlon disciplines for themselves. There will also be a family day for the Modern Pentathlon Men’s and Women’s Relays on Tuesday 22nd August with every ticket costing just £5.

Rebecca Leach, 2023 Laser Run and Modern Pentathlon World Championship Event Director, said: “Preparations are now well under way for what promises to be an exciting and memorable event this summer. Whilst the Championships will offer a rare opportunity to witness the world’s best athletes compete in the UK, you won’t need to be a die-hard sports fan to enjoy the event. An exciting programme of family entertainment is being planned to immerse everyone in the event and make sure they have an unforgettable day out.”

Daily tickets are priced from just £5, with entry to Pentathlon Finals Day on Sunday 27th August – when both the men’s and women’s champions will be crowned – priced from £15 for adults and £5 concessions. All tickets in the accessible stand are £5 throughout the event. Visit The World Championships website to buy tickets.
