Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset is gearing up for its spring season in traditional automotive style by sliding open sunroofs and folding down soft-tops across their priceless car collection.

Every year at the beginning of April, staff at the Sparkford museum begin the time-consuming tradition which marks the official start of spring.

The museum is home to the UK's biggest exhibition of cars and motorbikes dating from 1900 up to the present day.

It takes the team of volunteers up to 24 hours to complete the task which involves more than a third of their 300-strong vehicle collection.

“For some museums and collections spring traditionally begins when they put their clocks forward, but for us it’s always been the unwinding of sunroofs and the opening up of soft-tops,” said spokesman Lars Loopif.

“What better way to mark the end of winter than by joining car owners across the country in this age-old signal of warmer weather and longer days ahead?” he added.

Opened in 1985, Haynes Motor Museum was the brainchild of John Haynes OBE, mastermind behind the world-famous Haynes car manuals.

Housed within 15 exhibition areas, its vast collection spans everything from the birth of motoring and nostalgic classics of the 50s and 60s, to glorious Bentleys and Rolls Royces and stunning supercars of modern day.

Located just off the A303 at Sparkford in Somerset, it’s the perfect place for a fun, family day out or the ideal stop-off point.

Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford, near Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 7LH is open from 10am daily. For more information call +44 (0)1963 442783 or visit www.haynesmuseum.co.uk
