To celebrate their one-year anniversary as Creators in Residence at Arnolfini, youth-led CIC, Rising Arts Agency, is taking over Arnolfini’s Gallery 5 for two months. Inspired by Arnolfini’s current exhibition, Garry Fabian Miller's ADORE, and the themes of Rising Arts Agency’s radical work over the last six years, we have invited their community of young creatives to share their dreams for the space.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 11 March - Sunday 7 May, platforming the work of three young artists, Iman Sultan West, Manoel Akure and Daisy Hvnter who will independently occupy the space for 3 weeks each.

Iman Sultan West - 11th March to 26th March
Manoel Akure -  1st April to 16th April
Daisy Hvnter - 22nd April to 7th May

As the gallery shifts and transforms with each artist's work, BE[LOVED] seeks to radically rethink the role of galleries as a public space and invite its audience to think about their own role in challenging the status quo, bringing in new voices and creating social change.

Since it was founded in 2016, Rising Arts Agency has gained a reputation for their provocative exhibitions and use of public space. In 2019, their ‘Why Are We Not Here?’ exhibition, curated by Stacey Olika and Anika Deb at Spike Island, directly challenged institutional racism in gallery spaces and gained national attention from outlets like BBC and Bristol 24/7. Similarly, in 2020, their award-winning ‘Whose Future’ billboard and poster campaign filled Bristol’s streets with powerful artwork and statements from young people across the city. BE[LOVED] is yet another opportunity for the youth-led agency to support new artists to exhibit their work, while sharing a vital message about the radical role of art is creating meaningful social change.

One of Rising’s Co-Directors said: We have selected three of our incredible artists to exhibit [at Arnolfini] and share their radical reimaginings for the world we live in. Take stock, take notice and take care. This is just one example of the greatness that can come from giving young people agency and inviting them in.

Gary Topp, Executive Director at Arnolfini, said:

Arnolfini was founded in 1961 by young people as a contemporary arts space. Garry Fabian Miller had his first exhibition in 1979 was he was 19 years old. ‘Beloved’ continues this tradition by giving three young artists their voice at Arnolfini. Huge thanks to Rising for making this happen with us!

BE[LOVED] will be open from 11th March - 7th May, 2023 in Gallery 5 at the Arnolfini in Bristol.

This exhibition is in partnership with Arnolfini and supported by Freelands Foundation.
