Taking over The Crofters Rights on Wednesday 5 April is THE WOOD BURNING SAVAGES. Hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland they exude a punk-rock spirit to match their name.Their debut album ‘Stability’ made them a name to remember across the UK and Irish post-punk scene, making this a raw energy set not to be missed.

With an uninterrupted 30-years-and-counting career, Yo La Tengo is unparalleled in its creative breadth spanning everything from psychedelic dream pop to frantic art rock. Performing on Thursday 13 April at SWX, this beloved and respected band formed by dynamic trio Ira Kaplan, George Hubley and James McNew has enjoyed success entirely on their own terms and have become a cornerstone of experimental indie rock; collaborating with everyone from Homer Simpson to Yoko Ono.

A guaranteed off the wall performance, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith will be performing at The Fleece on 17 April, bringing her bright, fluid soundscapes crafted with a variety of synthesisers. Her music is filled with vivid, expressive melodies along with her warped, ethereal vocals that will leave the audience wondering how she created it. Her live performances are accompanied by psychedelic and vibrant projections creating a full  experience for those lucky enough to attend.

Under the alias The Tallest Man on Earth, Kristian Matsson’s performances embody soft rock with lilting indie-folk to create something entrancing and atmospheric. In his upcoming new album ‘Too Late for Edelweiss’, Matsson delivers a new collection of covers, including his versions of Hank Williams’ ‘Lost Highway’, Yo La Tengo’s ‘Tears Are In Your Eyes’ and fellow Swedish artist Håkan Hellström ‘För sent för Edelweiss’. See him perform at Trinity on Saturday 22 April at 20:00.

A master of his craft, Neue Grafik is a composer, producer and instrumentalist that will be performing at Strange Brew on Wednesday 3 May. His hybrid mix of jazz, house and hip hop is sure to be an eclectic performance, intertwined with a love for London sounds like broken beat & grime. The Neue Grafik Ensemble features Neue on piano, rhodes and synths, Emma-Jean Thackray on trumpet, Vels Trio’s Dougal Taylor on drums and Matt Gedrych from MaddAddam on bass.

An artful mix of Columbian traditions of currulao and cumbia and salsa, rap verses and jazz improvisation Mestizo is bringing the London scene to Bridgehouse on Friday 5 May at 20:00. Steam Down founder and saxophonist Ahnansé and Mambo Negro Records head and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Michel have created a musical bridge between two worlds which is not to be missed.

With a plethora of experience under his belt, John Kelly has been performing live for 30 years. Describing himself as a lover and a (non-violent) fighter, this self-taught musician’s songwriting sits alongside that of his heroes and peers; containing all the conviction of Woody Guthrie and the fiery passion of Billy Bragg. See him live at Bridgehouse on Sunday 7 May.

Combining psychedelic sounds and folk music, Lankum has received worldwide acclaim for their euphoric live performances and will be hosting one of their sets at SWX at 18:30 on Friday 12 May. Their last album, “The Livelong Day”, cemented their reputation as one of the most unique and talked about groups to emerge from Ireland in decades.

Having just released their new collaborative album SHOOK, Algiers will be taking to the stage at The Fleece on Monday 22 May and sharing their new found sound. Their extraordinary and transformative record is a plurality of voices; a spiritual and geographical homecoming; a strategy of communion in a burning world; the story of an end of a relationship all wrapped up into one.

A force to be reckoned with, Rokia Koné’s voice soars above bass and synths, traditional percussion and infectious Mande guitar grooves. A beloved and dynamic artist from Mali, her captivating performances showcase joy to despair, fury to tenderness, emotions created with her astounding voice. Catch a glimpse of her talent on Friday 26 May at the Exchange.

Three time winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, The Young’Uns combine spirited folk with joyful humour and striking storytelling. Composed of Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and comedian David Eagle, The Young’Uns sing mostly acapella and created the international theatre production The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff, based on their 2019 concept album of the same name. Performing at Redgrave Theatre on Sunday 28 May, hear their latest album ‘Tiny Notes’ which addresses the gravity and despair of our current times but finding hope in spite of it all.
