The Roman Baths to offer day courses for adults this Spring

The Roman Baths is offering two unique day courses for adults this spring, perfect for anyone looking to learn new crafting skills.

Find out about the history of yarn and fabric making, and try out ancient techniques like weaving, needle felting and using a drop spindle on Saturday 11 March; or explore interesting books, scrolls and pamphlets from Bath Record Office and make your own miniature books on Saturday 22 April.

The courses will take place in the new Roman Baths Clore Learning Centre, which opened last year adjacent to the Roman Baths.

Kevin Guy, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “Our new, state-of-the-art Learning Centre means that we can offer a wider range of courses and activities for local people, linked to the history and heritage of our city. Come along and find out about the ancient crafts of yarn and book making, and enjoy learning some new skills.”

Tickets cost £45 / £35 for Discovery Card holders, seniors and students, including all resources, tea and coffee.

Have you ever wondered how fleece was transformed into thread and fabric by our ancestors?

Join us for a relaxed and varied session as we explore ancient techniques, view items from our collection and have a go at using a drop spindle, needle felting, lucet braiding and weaving.

Handmade Books in Miniature
Saturday 22 April, 10am to 4pm
Join local artist Karen Woodfield and Holly Trant from Bath Record Office and explore interesting books, scrolls and pamphlets from the archive.
Use these objects as inspiration to make your own miniature artist's books.
