Weekends of Wonder! is a street theatre festival with WOW! factor, bringing local and international artists together to light up the town with bedazzling acts to amaze audiences of all ages. WOW! will bring together veteran street performers alongside cutting edge new talent to create a truly magical atmosphere on our city’s central high street. Expect vibrant circus and theatrical ‘Covent Garden style’ performances in circle shows and interactive walkabout acts, plus a treasure hunt of artistic window installations to discover. Themes centre on connection, creativity, playfulness, sustainability and inclusivity; sparking imagination for positive futures and re-igniting hope.

Invisible Circus will be shown on the following dates: 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 May, 3 and 3 June

WOW! Bristol is the first street performance festival of its kind in the city. Street theatre is one of the most inclusive, barrier-free and equal forms of entertainment available. By the very nature of it being free to attend, it is open for everyone to enjoy. Audience members do not need to have an understanding of the particular disciplines to appreciate or participate (and there will be a lot of opportunity for participation!). The performances are created specifically to suit outdoor locations, and are either designed to be language free or easily interactive with minimal language required, therefore welcoming non-English speakers and D/deaf audience members just as equally as anyone else.

Joy is a celebration of life – and quality street theatre can deliver this in a way that positively engages the communities, businesses and stakeholders that use Broadmead, inviting us all to reimagine the future of our highstreets with positivity!

Acts will begin to be announced in March, with the full programme being released in April. Invisible Circus' Weekends of Wonder! is being delivered as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Streets project.

WOW! will coincide with the opening weeks of Sparks Bristol - an exciting new art and sustainability hub in Broadmead, run by ArtSpace LifeSpace (sister company to the Invisible Circus) and Global Goals Centre. The ambition is to create a vibrant, positive venue where local people and visitors can shop, recycle, and explore what a greener, fairer and creative future could look like, breathing new life into the old M&S building on a ‘meanwhile use’ basis until the site is redeveloped. The project closely incorporates the themes of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Invisible Circus is a Bristol-based circus theatre company, infamous for their site responsive work in historical buildings and unusual locations, as well as performing at arts and music festivals around the world since 1996.

Based in the UK since 2000, the Invisible Circus draws much of its approach to creation and performance from its history as a troupe of travelling street performers, delivering circus, art and theatre directly to communities, who may not usually have the opportunity to interact with and enjoy the arts. Ever influenced by their time spent exploring Europe’s rich performance culture and embracing a rich tapestry of traditions, the company is industrious, creative and draws on the skills of hundreds of local artists and industry professionals; their work is ambitious in scale and accessible to a wide range of people.

Now settled in Bristol, and thoroughly intertwined with the city’s arts and circus culture, the company runs its own training and creation space - Unit 15 - and continues to produce unique experiences with a range of collaborative partners.
