They run a range of workshops and experiences for young people across the region and are currently looking for businesses to support them with the below projects.

If you are interested in getting involved in any of the below or would like some more information on how WORKS could work for your business, then please get in touch with Hayley on works@bristol.gov.uk.

National Careers Week 2023: 6th – 10th March 2023

Bristol WORKS is taking a lead on a programme of activity as part of National Careers Week 2023. This consists of WORKS organising and scheduling a timetable of varying sessions which schools can then book onto. This ensures that students across Bristol are able to gain a well-rounded and exciting careers engagement throughout the week. Sessions can be a wide range of activities with an aim of being engaging, interactive and an opportunity for students to explore different career paths they may not have previously considered.

We are aiming to deliver a blended week of both virtual and in-person sessions for learners across ages (11-17 predominantly) and a timetable for mainstream learners and learners with additional needs. We are open to ideas and offers of activity during this week. Length, content and details of the session can be developed with the WORKS Team’s support and we are keen to develop new as well as previously successful sessions.

Raising Aspirations – Wednesday 8th March 2023

All 1500 Year 9 students from Cabot Learning Federation Schools are being taken off timetable on this date for a whole day of careers activity. They have a key note speaker, employability based activities and are seeking employer led sessions for their students to learn about the world of work. As part of this, we are looking for virtual 50 minute sessions to be delivered for classrooms of learners that can be delivered either once or repeated during this day. WORKS would provide full support in running this, scoping the session out and reviewing content and session. This could be delivered as a 50 minute activity or other ideas could be splitting the session into chunks i.e.

10 minutes introduction to the organisation for example: Powerpoint slides, videos.

20-25 minutes interactive task/activity that students can do with the support of their teacher in the classroom. – Simulation video, practical problem, classroom based task.

15 minutes interaction via TEAMS. For example Q and A from the students, students presenting back what they have been working on etc

In house Work Experience Programme – Between 6th – 17th March 2023

Location: Ravenswood School (Nailsea) or off site

Sessions: Ideally 50 minute sessions or longer if offsite

Description: Ravenswood School are running an in-house work experience programme for their learners in Year 11, 12 and 13. As part of this programme, the students are participating in a range of sessions across sectors to help prepare them for the world of work. This group would really benefit from an opportunity to experience roles in practice – through mini activities or practical activities on site, as well as engaging sessions to learn about routes and opportunities from direct interactions with employers.

Cohort: This is a special school for mixed-ability learners.

Career Carousel – 7th February 2023

Location: Lansdown Park Academy (Rush Hill site, Bath)

Timing: Between 11:00 - 12:45

Description: Year 9 - Year 11 learners will attend up to 6 short sessions with employers to broaden their horizons to the wide range of careers available. You will have 20 minutes with each group of 2-4 students to share a little about your organization, what you do and / or give students the opportunity to try out an element of your sector. Students will then carousel after 20 minutes to another session. Therefore, if supporting this you will be asked to repeat your session. These learners attend an alternative learning provision and therefore, will have varying levels of confidence, ability and aspiration. We would especially welcome employers/people who would be willing to share their experiences of overcoming challenges /adversities/developing resilience or perhaps those who have a less than traditional career pathway / offer entry level opportunities within their workplace.

Orchard School WEX Taster Day - Thursday 9th February 2023

We are looking for employers to run 1-2 hour workshops at Orchard School Bristol with the hope of sessions being repeated for groups of 15-20 Year 10 students. Timings for this would be between 08:50-14:20 subject to session lengths. We are open how this could run but we would like the session to provide a work experience taster for groups of year learners. Ideally the session will consist of an introduction to your business, some icebreaker activities with the students and an understanding of the roles and different pathways within your sector. There would then be a practical activity relating to your field to give the students an experience of work task. This can be supported and developed with WORKS but some suggestions could be a problem solving task relating to a working day, an advertisement design challenge for a product from your company etc. These details can be discussed and developed with WORKS. They are looking for a broad range of sectors and organisations. This is running as a programme for learners who are not quite ready yet to go on a formal work experience week or for those who have not been able to secure a placement.

Speed Networking – 8th February 2023

For this activity the students will team up in pairs to ask you questions about your sector and role and give you the opportunity to give them insight into your career journey, the students will rotate every 10 minutes to speak to another employer. We welcome anyone to attend, but if there is anyone who is an ex-student or who has overcome a previous barrier or challenge, we would really encourage them to attend and share their story.

Cohort: We have been working with a group of students through Year 10 – Year 11 (they are now in Year 11) to support them with knowledge around next steps, careers and to ensure they move successfully into Post 16. They are mixed ability group with varying levels of confidence.
