Cabinet leaders recently visited Bath Quays, the council’s flagship redevelopment project, ahead of work being completed next year.

Councillor Kevin Guy, leader of the council and Councillor Mark Roper, cabinet member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Growth were able to access the site via the new bridge across the River Avon which has been opened to pedestrians and cyclists.

The councillors met Martyn Evans, Consulting Director of Altus, one of the first companies to move into No.1 Bath Quays. The financial services software provider and management consultancy has leased the entire top floor of the prestigious office building, which is the first new office block to be built in Bath for a generation.

Councillor Kevin Guy, Leader of the Council, said: “We are very proud of what the council has achieved at Bath Quays. It’s fantastic to walk around here today and see our plans for a new commercial area for Bath coming to fruition. We are looking forward to the New Year with more people moving in and the ongoing development of the site."

The Bath Quays site also includes Newark Works, the Grade II listed Victorian industrial buildings that were originally home to engineering firm Stothert & Pitt. The buildings have been restored by regeneration specialists TCN and transformed into flexible office spaces that can accommodate single co-workers through to companies of up to 40 staff.

The council aims to announce the name for the bridge in Spring 2023. The results of a public naming event have been considered by special committee and following a single member decision, the selected name will be submitted for the street naming process.

The bridge has been funded by Cycle City Ambition Grants won in collaboration with Walk Ride Bath (then Cycle Bath) and Local Growth Funding from the West of England Combined Authority.

A six ton hand-operated quarry crane, built by Stothert and Pitt, is also being installed on the Bath Quays site. Two former Stothert and Pitt employees have been working on the restoration of the crane.
