Full of independently published magazines, design-led stationery, coffee table books and creatively curated interiors, Rova is the latest independent shop to open on the Christmas Steps.

Rova will officially open its doors to the public on Saturday 19 November, offering an artistic and eclectic range of hand-selected reading material and stationery. Located at 11 Christmas Steps, the first bricks and mortar shop for the brand will be stocked full of independent magazines and books that encompass every aspect of visual culture.

The design-driven space will be home to a variety of publications covering topics including food and drink, arts and culture, fashion and design as well as architecture and business - alongside an extensive range of independent magazines from creatives around the world.

With creativity and design at the heart of Rova’s ethos, founder Paul Baxter has placed a huge amount of thought and attention into the details and interiors of the premises - and his keen eye for design and creative flair will be clear to see.

Keeping in touch with the city and championing all things independent, Baxter has utilised the handiwork of local artists, including Bedminster-based Tozer Signs, who has brought the shop front to life with her engaging typography creations. Custom-made tables from Horfield based, Arc Makers will adorn the space, showcasing hand-printed Rova gift vouchers from Nick Hand at the Letterpress Collective as well as branded tote bags from Fyahfly in Easton. Huge houseplants from Rova’s neighbours, Fancy Plants, will add those finishing touches to the interiors.

Rova’s striking shelving is from Vitsoe - designed in 1959 by one of the foremost industrial designers of the 20th century, Dieter Rams. Working exclusively for two companies throughout his career, Vitsoe and German electrical company Braun, Rova’s celebration and appreciation of the designer doesn’t stop at the shelving. Baxter will also be stocking two discontinued and rare Dieter Rams items: the AB1 alarm clock and BNE 001 calculator.

Alongside the impressive titles guests will find stacked on bespoke tables and shelving, a carefully curated selection of stationery and lifestyle products such as calendars, journals and agendas from South East London’s print-tastic paper aficionados, The Completist will also be on offer.

Boasting a huge range of books, stationery, gift wrap, greeting cards and more, Rova is opening just in time for Christmas and guarantees that Bristolians can pop in and find something for family and friends near and far.

Paul Baxter, Founder of Rova, said: “I am beyond eager to officially welcome the people of Bristol to Rova, and to be opening up on the Christmas Steps is just the cherry on top. To be surrounded by amazing independents and artists is exactly what I wanted as I pride myself on showcasing local and indie artists.”

For one-of-a-kind items and hard-to-find gems, Rova is the ultimate addition to the Christmas Steps. The shop will be open Monday to Saturday from 11am - 5pm until Christmas. To get a taste of what’s set to be on offer, check out the Rova website and Follow the store on Facebook and Instagram
