Wiltshire’s famed country house hotel, Lucknam Park, has long been a haven for families and an advocate for the great outdoors. This summer, the Palladian mansion will further elevate its offering and launch an extended outdoor play area for youngsters, alongside a flurry of new activities and a new addition to its growing cottage collection.

New Play Area

Lucknam Park’s 500 acres of parkland ensures parents can enjoy precious, quality time in the fresh air with their children. From August onwards, an extensive, alfresco play area will be ready and waiting for children to discover and explore in the summer sun and beyond. Suitable for children of all ages, the play zone will have a selection of swings, rocking logs, wavy bars and mini webs sure to result in squeals of delight, as well as, ladder walks, hurdles, balance beams and stilts to keep children both entertained and active. The area will also have an outdoor classroom shelter for educational talks on the surrounding nature trails and environment.

Family Activities

The newly extended outdoor play area complements the host of countryside pursuits already available to guests such as cycling - with new trails available - woodland walks, croquet and five-a-side football; as well as falconry, duck herding, archery and horse-riding at an additional cost. For the latter, there are complimentary beginners pony rides for children up to 12 years old, three times a week. Additionally, hot air balloon rides provide families with the opportunity to fly over the scenic Wiltshire countryside, launching spectacularly from the front of the hotel.

Hosted by informative guides, scenic tours around the hotel’s gardens and sculptures showcase the captivating collection of contemporary pieces, created by some of the finest British sculptors, such as the award-winning Hamish Mackie. The hotel also hosts complimentary art classes with local artists in their sanctuary, where beginners are welcome.

Meanwhile, The Hideaway at Lucknam Park caters for all ages with a variety of activities including a Games Room with table tennis and table football, an Imaginative Room featuring arts and crafts, a Role-Play Room, a Baby Play Room complete with sensory light tubes and a Quiet Room for story time and playing board games.

Summer culinary highlights luxury picnics can also be enjoyed within the blooming parkland. Catering for all ages, these hampers bring a taste of the Michelin starred Restaurant Hywel Jones and The Brasserie, alfresco.

New Cottage: Middle Lodge

Lucknam Park has been steadily growing its cottage collection. The latest cottage to open is Middle Lodge - a pretty cobble-stone cottage which offers flexibility and privacy, with all the facilities and services of Lucknam Park. Middle Lodge is Lucknam Park's sixth standalone cottage.

Inside, guests can expect cosy, quintessentially British interiors in keeping with the building's traditional period style. A bright and expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and living area are perfect for gatherings, with French doors leading to a spacious private garden, whilst a smaller separate lounge equipped with TV and board games is ideal  for children. The cottage sleeps up to six people, with two double en-suite bedrooms and a twin room complete with bathtubs. Little Lucknam guests are provided with their very own luxury furnishings, with cots and extra beds readily available.

Guests can prepare home cooked meals within the fully equipped kitchens, or stroll across to the main hotel to dine at Restaurant Hywel Jones or The Brasserie. A welcome hamper filled with freshly baked pastries, biscuits, wine and other treats greets guests, whilst room service is available throughout the day and evening.
