Bristol Beacon is set to host a screening of the acclaimed experimental documentary Arcadia (2017) by BAFTA-winning director Paul Wright, accompanied by a captivating live performance of the film’s signature soundtrack.

This November at St George’s Bristol, a specially curated nine piece band will bring the film’s iconic soundtrack to life, with Portishead’s Adrian Utley leading on guitar, and electronic duo Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory taking over the keyboard.

Coined an ‘absorbing odyssey’ by The Guardian, Arcadia is an exhilarating study of the British people’s shifting relationship with the land, and an eccentric exploration of what the English countryside means to the individual.

The film is set to transport viewers through the changing landscapes of rural Britain, where the bizarre and the surreal illuminated the British people’s understanding of the natural world around them.

Over 100 years of archival footage traces the tumultuous connection man has maintained with the land over the last century, shining a spotlight on traditions which transcend time. Viewers can expect to discover rituals both ancient and modern which have fostered the human connection with the environment, including everything from folk carnivals to masked parades and long-forgotten mythology.

Together with folk singer Marry Waterson, Adrian Utley, Will Gregory and an exceptional line up of musicians and vocalists will welcome viewers into a fully immersive experience, giving a four-dimensional insight into the beauty and brutality of rural Britain.

Todd Wills, Artistic Director at Bristol Beacon, stated, “We are thrilled to be presenting the critically acclaimed Arcadia at St George’s Bristol this November. The live performance of the film’s iconic soundtrack, with Adrian Utley and Will Gregory will invite the audience into a fully immersive experience which takes them to the very heart of the British countryside, spanning over 100 years of history.”
