Community groups, organisations and residents are invited to help shape the programme of events at Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Climate & Biodiversity Festival by organising an activity on the theme of ‘taking action for the climate.'

This year the festival will run during the Great Big Green Week, a nationwide celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature, which takes place from September 24 to October 2.

The first Climate & Biodiversity Festival, held in September last year, was a great success. Community organisers ran more than 30 events, focused on the twin themes of carbon emissions and nature, that were attended by hundreds of people.

Councillor Sarah Warren, deputy leader and cabinet member for Climate and Sustainable Travel, said: “Our first festival was a collaborative programme of events which allowed Bath and North East Somerset residents to show just how involved they are in working to tackle the climate and environmental crisis. This year, we’re once again inviting people put forward their ideas for activities and work with us to create a programme of events that will spark ideas and get people thinking about what they can do, either individually or as part of a community group, to have a positive impact.”

Events already on the festival programme include themed discussion and inspiration sessions, workshops, author talks, guided walks and nature trails. The festival aims to provide something for everyone with a mixture of fun, practical and educational content, both in-person and online.

Community groups and residents are invited to submit a proposal for an event they would like to run. It can be something already planned that is taking place during the week of the festival, or an idea that you would like to develop further. More information about the types of events, guidance for organisers and the submission form can be found on the council website. The deadline for submitting a proposal is 30th June.

Anyone wanting to discuss their idea with the festival’s organisers or ask for help with the planning can join an online workshop on Tuesday 21st June at 5.30pm. The meeting will be held on Zoom. Please register online in advance.

Visit the Big Green Week website for more information about their festival.
