Moist, Moist, Moist brings a spoken word comedy about love, sex and the sea to Bath as poet, performer and multiple poetry slam winner Chris White visits the Ustinov Studio on Thursday 16th June. Created with support from the Theatre Royal Plymouth, and recipient of the Pleasance 2021 National Partnership Award, Moist, Moist, Moist is part poetry, part stand-up and part gig with live music from Hal Kelly.

“A knack for humour that can make you sigh in embarrassment, while also crying with laughter. But this lovely comedic sense is artfully and beautifully punctured by the powerful spoken word sections” - Bristol 24/7

Armed with a cheap bottle of wine and an extended metaphor, soggy bottom and submerging artist Chris White dives into the Queer experience as he presents his spoken-word show about falling - whether that’s in and out of love, or in and out of the sea - a show about blood and water, and the fact that one is thicker than the other.

“Surreal comic riffs, ridiculous skits and songs alongside deeply emotional explorations of life and love.” - FairyPoweredProductions.com

Chris White is a former 'Bard of Exeter’ with a passion for making poetry which is fun and accessible. He has performed at theatres, festivals and spoken-word nights across the UK from Tongue Fu to Latitude. Hal Kelly is a musician, artist and theatre-maker who creates experimental electronic music and soundscapes.

On Saturday 18th June, multi-award-winning Popelei bring Push to the Ustinov Studio prior to a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. Performed by Tamsin Hurtado Clarke, this fiercely funny and mischievous solo show tells the story of a woman staring down the barrel of motherhood torn between her own ambivalence and an uncontrollable urge to push.

With blistering honesty, exhilarating choreography and one increasingly knocked-up performer, Push asks: what do you do when you’ve made the brilliant decision not to have children and then find yourself pregnant at 38? Interlaced with punchy choreography and an electrifying original soundtrack from acclaimed Chilean composer Santiago Jara Astaburuaga, this daring new play takes a playful and feminist look at motherhood through the lens of one woman, infused by her Anglo-Latinx heritage and her apparent lack of maternal instinct.

Co-creator and performer Tamsin Hurtado Clarke said, “At its heart, Push is about the ongoing impossibility of deciding what you want to be when you grow up – a parent, not a parent, just like your mother, the complete opposite of your mother, a dancer, a lover, an astronaut. It’s about suddenly realising the last couple of years got eaten up, you’ve just turned 38 and you’re not quite sure how that happened. We’re excited to challenge preconceptions of what a pregnant woman can do in front of an audience, whilst also challenging the myth that all women are born maternal.”

Popelei, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is an ongoing collaboration between writer-performer Tamsin Hurtado Clarke and writer-director Scarlett Plouviez. In response to theatre lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, Popelei reimagined Push for the screen as Push: The Film, winning Best Experimental Short at the Cult Movies International Film Festival and achieving Official Selection for the Bristol Independent Film Awards (2021).

"An engaging, expressive performance... a show that captures the blizzard of feelings parents have for their as-yet-unborn children" – The Guardian
