The Grand Appeal and a duo of Bristol’s baking stars have joined forces ahead of the Jubilee weekend, for Wallace & Gromit’s BIG Bake.

The Grand Appeal is calling on the people of Bristol, hosting their own Jubilee celebrations, to dust off their aprons and get baking for their friends and family, to raise some ‘dough’ for the Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Anyone who signs up for Wallace & Gromit’s BIG Bake will receive special Jubilee cake recipes created by Bristol baking royalty Ah Toots and Bake Off star Briony May Williams

The local baking icons have each contributed their own Jubilee recipe, which BIG Bake fundraisers can easily make at home; Briony’s Union Jack Victoria Sponge and Ah Toots Lemon and Sage cake, will be the centrepieces of any party.

Nicola Masters, Director at The Grand Appeal, explains: “Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is a special celebration and with an extended Bank Holiday, it’s a perfect opportunity for friends and families to be together, and of course, eat plenty of cake!

“It’s fantastic to have two of the most esteemed baking stars in Bristol supporting this campaign, providing special recipes which families and friends can make at home. Briony and the team at Ah Toots are just fantastic, each deserving of a thousand Hollywood handshakes.”

“For everyone in Bristol hosting their own Jubilee celebration we ask that you make it count by baking in support of The Grand Appeal - it could be with a bake sale, a coffee and cake morning, or maybe just a fundraising collection during your celebration.”

Wallace and Gromit’s BIG Bake raises money for The Grand Appeal and is supported by Aardman with all funds raised supporting the amazing work of the Bristol Children’s Hospital, which treats over 100,000 young patients each year from Bristol and the South West of England and South Wales.

£200 raised could fund a week’s stay in The Grand Appeal’s family accommodation, allowing parents to stay close to their child, rather than facing a long-distance daily travel. £100 could fund two music therapy sessions, helping to entertain patients and divert their attention from treatment.

In addition to special recipes, BIG Bakers can also get a host of Jubilee themed party accessories to help with their fundraising; from cake bunting, flags and labels to BIG Bake posters and even scoring cards.. Or purchase a souvenir to remember the occasion from The Gromit Unleashed Shop: https://gromitunleashedshop.org.uk/collections/glorious-gromit

Avid amateur bakers can also sign up to take part in a BIG Bake in aid of The Grand Appeal at any time in the year so that they can recreate the recipes of the professionals whenever they want, all while raising money for Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
