Five-star hotel The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, is hosting a free, solo exhibition of paintings by Ukrainian artist Alina Maksimenko between 21 April to 5 June 2022, in collaboration with online contemporary art gallery Axle Arts – offering a private view on the 21 of April from 6pm - 8pm.

The exhibition is in financial support of displaced Ukrainian artist Alina, who was forced to flee her hometown Irpin, near Kiev, due to the violence following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She was forced to abandon everything she owns and after a seven-day journey is currently sheltering in Vienna.

With hauntingly powerful and figurative artworks ranging from ‘Dance for Pina’ and ‘Cherry Garden’ to ‘Apple Orchard (diptych)’, Alina’s often large and elegant paintings occupy dark spaces. They encapsulate graceful and thoughtful figure studies through focused observation, sited within abstracted landscapes.

Lorraine Jarvie, General Manager at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa comments: “It is a huge pleasure to host the work of the impressive talent that is Alina Maksimenko – and in support of such a worthy cause. We take our corporate social responsibility seriously – we embrace the opportunity to collaborate with Axle Arts in helping Alina as she takes refuge from the war, all while paying homage to her illustrious, international career and wonderfully inquisitive and thoughtful impressions.”

All are invited to come and see the artworks at any point up until the end of the exhibition on 5 June. To find out more about the event, please email events@royalcrescent.co.uk or call 01225 823 333. For more information about The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, go to: www.royalcrescent.co.uk
