Visit Bristol’s marketing team issues regular monthly press releases highlighting the best of what’s new and what’s on in the city. We send out each release in two phases: an early release for longer-lead press and contacts (magazines, weekend supplements, trade press and national freelance journalists, VisitBritain, etc) with an updated version going out two weeks later (to national weeklies, dailies, local press and influencers). To maximise coverage, we are sending these releases out earlier and earlier. This has been reaping rewards in terms of coverage gained and we wanted to publish some helpful advice on maximising your chances of inclusion and coverage.

Although we find media outlets generally focus only on one or two items from the release we try to cover as many partners and members as possible.

If you would like to be included, subject to space and timing, please contact press@visitbristol.co.uk with details of your news and we’ll do our best to spread the word via our contacts.

Clipping about Bristol from the Guardian

We always share links with individual members when they are mentioned in articles published and you can view our latest press coverage reports or check out our monthly press coverage blog posts.

Some top tips on how to be included:

  • Our regular press releases include key events for the month or season, new openings, new menus, new tours – anything newsworthy
  • The earlier the better - it is never too early to tell us anything!
  • When sourcing events to list in the press release we go to the Visit Bristol website first, so ensure your events are uploaded as early as possible
  • No need to wait until you’ve written your own press release. We can only include a few lines on each event or news item, so just send us a few lines of copy: the headline, the date, the venue, the highlights…a weblink if there is one.
  • Pictures: we have space for one or two pictures in each release. Send us a dropbox link or one or two low-res images.
