The Mendip Family Festival returned for its third edition at Mendip Basecamp in Churchill this past weekend and was a complete sell-out. Despite spells of rain, nothing dampened the atmosphere, with families, friends, and festival-goers embracing a weekend full of music, adventure, and film. Organised in partnership with the Wrington Vale Rotary Club and hosted by Mendip Activity Centre, the festival is set to raise thousands of pounds for local causes supported by Rotary.
On Friday, Harry Potter was the theme as children enjoyed magical entertainment before settling in with glow sticks as magic wands to watch Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone on a giant outdoor screen, complete with a fire show finale. Across the weekend, families enjoyed activities including Quidditch, ArcheryActive, Frisbee Golf, Axe Throwing, and Nerf Battles proving the adventure carried on whatever the weather.
Live music created the soundtrack to the festival. Saturday’s line-up opened with the spellbinding voice of Daisy Chapman, followed by raucous, foot-stomping energy from The Jamestown Brothers. Festival favourites and local legends Doreen Doreen lit up the stage with glitter, glamour, and fun in a show that closed out their summer season. Supervision kept the party going late into the night, once little ones had headed to bed.

Rich Eddins, Co-Owner of Mendip Activity Centre, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to host the festival again alongside the dedicated volunteers from the Rotary Club. We’re proud to support live music and live entertainment, and it’s fantastic to give back to the community in such a fun way.”
Writing on Facebook, festival-goer Carrie Langley said: "It was the best weekend, a film on the big screen got the kids excited, the fireshow, all the activities and then all the music on Saturday was amazing but esp Doreen Doreen, loved that it all carried on until late. Campfires and fun company and a special mention to the cider tent for the comfy bean bag chairs and lovely mulled cider out of the rain! Cannot wait to come back next year."
The festival’s success is thanks not only to the performers and volunteers but also to the generous support of sponsors including Britannia Windows, Ad Astra Cider, TensileFabric, The Storage Station, Farrons Sales & Lettings, Humphry Motor Company and Somerset Leisure.
With many families returning year after year, the Mendip Family Festival has firmly established itself as a highlight of the local summer calendar – and a true celebration of community, adventure, and Mendip magic.
