About

Overview

Join us to explore the collective effort needed to bring about a resilient, low-carbon and nature positive BANES that meets everyone's needs

On the 18th of November, whilst global leaders meet at COP in Brazil, the Council, partners, businesses and organisations involved in delivering change are invited to come together for the first time as the Climate and Nature Network (BANES CANN).

Delivering for the Climate and Ecological Emergencies needs the collective efforts of civic partners, businesses, community groups and residents to address the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead at a local level.

We're starting with the BANES CANN Forum. We'll showcase where we are today and discuss 3 key areas: the journey to becoming low-carbon and nature positive, building resilience, and innovating for the future. We'll focus on what steps businesses and community groups can take - regardless of their size or where they are based -to bring about a low-carbon and nature positive area that meets everyone’s needs.

As the Council updates its climate and nature plans into one combined strategy, the audience will also have the opportunity to shape the direction this will take and discuss what is needed to make it a reality that benefits the long-term wellbeing of our communities and where we live.

Getting Here

To reduce the cabon impact of our event we would urge you to use public transport where possible. The Guildhall is a 10 minute walk up from Bath Spa Rail Station, and Bath Bus Station. If you're driving, Bath offers three Park & Ride services on the outskirts of the city, providing a more sustainable and hassle-free way to reach the centre. Limited paid parking is also available in central Bath for those who need it.

Accessibility

We're committed to making this event as accessible as possible. Please do let us know when booking if you require any specific adjustments.

The event takes place in a World Heritage city, where some streets and surrounding areas are cobbled. If this presents a challenge for you in accessing the venue, please do not hesitate to get in touch for assistance with planning your route or providing additional support.

Most of Bath's car parks have Blue Badge parking bays, and there are some on-street Blue Badge spaces near the Guildhall.

You can find disabled parking in Bath on the Parkopedia website, using the filter to find blue badge spaces -https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/bath/

We have set aside a room at the Guildhall to be used as a quiet or private space, for example for prayer, breastfeeding parents or neurodiverse needs. To manage this space and try to accomodate everyone, please do let us know if this would be something you might require.

Accessibility Fund
We want to help remove barriers and support as many people from outside the city to attend our event. To help make this possible, we’ve set up an Accessibility Fund to reimburse travel costs for attendees who might otherwise be unable to attend due to financial limitations. Please contact sustainability@bathnes.gov.uk to find out more or apply.

Welcome & Imagining a Low-Carbon and Nature Positive BANES

13:45 - 14:45

Section 1: The Journey to a Low-Carbon and Nature Positive Future

Reducing carbon emissions in the district is an essential part of addressing our impact on the environment. Regardless of where you are in the process, 2 workshops and 1 panel: 'Embark', 'Embed' and 'Extend' will help you think about what you can do to address your emissions.

14:45 - 15:05

Refreshment break

15:05 - 16:05

Section 2: Building a Resilient Future in BANES

We are already starting to feel the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss through extreme and unpredictable weather events. As the climate and our local habitats continues to shift, we need to assess and manage risk - both within our communities and within our businesses - to make sure we can withstand any changes in the future. Join the conversation on building resilient and equitable communities, learn how to manage your business's climate and nature risks, or take part in the discussion on creating a resilient tourism industry in BANES.

16:05 - 16:15

Comfort Break

16:15 - 17:15

Section 3: Innovating for the Future

Developing new ways of working will be key to addressing and adapting to climate change and biodiversity loss. Hear about the ways in which you can support nature restoration in BANES, take part in a workshop exploring your options for accessing renewable energy in your community, or take part in the discussion around sustainable transport in the district

17:15 - 18:00

Engaging on action & closing remarks

We hope the Forum has given you food for thought on what you can address and how to support the vision of BANES. To wrap up our afternoon of events, join Matt Golding, founder of communications agency Rubber Republic, to hear his tips for inspiring others about a climate and nature positive future

18:00 - 19:30

Drinks & networking

Join speakers and other attendees for drinks and networking. Drinks will be provided.
