One of Europe's most accomplished and innovative artists, Terje Isungset marks 20 years of ice music with an international project that brings together artists with a long tradition of living in arctic conditions.

Originally planned for November 2020, Sound UK is thrilled to be producing the UK premiere and tour of this unique project for November 2021.

Inuit, Sami and Siberian singers, alongside Terje's pioneering ice instruments and Scandinavia's best jazz musicians, celebrate ancient cultures' longstanding respect for nature through traditional and contemporary music.

Terje Isungset will perform on a range of ice instruments, such as ice horns and percussion,  carved from natural ice from the mountains of Norway. Joining him onstage are Sami singer Sara Marielle Gaup Beaska, Inuit throat singers Akinisie Sivuarapik and Emily Sallualuk plus Tuvan throat singer, and member of acclaimed band Huun Huur Tu, Radik Tyulyush.

This unique line up also includes Norwegian singer Amalie Holt Kleive, trumpeter Lyder Øverås Røed and Sweden’s Viktor Reuter on double bass, plus video by acclaimed artist Anastasia Isachsen.

Terje Isungset is one of Europe’s most accomplished and innovative percussionists. He is a pioneer of ice instruments; extraordinary feats of sculpture, crafted from solid blocks of pure ice, along with instruments made from other natural elements such as arctic birch, granite, slate and sheep bells. His award-winning work takes jazz and Scandinavian music far beyond traditional boundaries, with 40 plus commissions embracing music for International Jazz and Music Festivals, Dance, Theatre and Film. Plus nine critically acclaimed solo albums. Terje’s Greenpeace film Ocean Memories was performed on instruments made from arctic ice on location at Spitsbergen/Svalbard.

After the show, Terje Isungset talks to local violinist and environmental campaigner Anneka Sutcliffe about the story behind his ice music project. Free to ticket bookers in the Glass Studio.
