As Covid-19 lockdown restrictions start to ease, #LoveBristol is a yearlong initiative that sees the city working together to support retailers, hospitality, businesses and the community to recover from the pandemic. The hearts are painted with eco-friendly chalk line marking paint, with 52 creating the shape of a heart in College Green, 220 in Queen Square and 103 in Castle Park.

The hearts are painted by a group of artists from Upfest, Europe's largest live street art festival, and are spaced at least two metres apart so people can sit in their households and groups of six to enjoy takeaways from nearby businesses in the spring sunshine.

Bringing people back together will help the city to build back stronger and faster.

Keith Rundle, Operations Director of Bristol City Centre BID, which represents over 1000 businesses explains; "Today marks the start of our #LoveBristol campaign. We have painted 365 socially distanced hearts across College Green, Castle Park and Queen Square, to celebrate the relaxing of restrictions and to ensure that everyone returning to the city centre is reassured they can enjoy it safely. The popularity of the hearts in 2020 was great to see and we’re really pleased to be able to bring them back to mark this next major step in the reopening roadmap.

“The recovery from lockdown gives us some great opportunities, and we have been working with many businesses and with the city council to ensure we emerge strongly as a city. It has been great to witness the anticipation of everyone who wishes to come back and enjoy the city centre whether shopping or socialising over a drink and some food. As people return, they will not only see old favourites but they will also find many exciting new businesses and experiences across the city centre over the coming months."

The campaign is a Bristol Together initiative, led by Bristol City Centre BID alongside Visit Bristol, Business West, Cabot Circus and Broadmead BID, in partnership with the One City Economy Board and Bristol City Council.

The hearts will be accompanied by huge #LoveBristol murals through the streets of Broadmead and Cabot Circus, as well as on the parks, with visitors and workers encouraged to share their love for the city when they happen across them.

The #LoveBristol campaign reassures everyone that returning to work, study and spend leisure time in the city centre will be welcoming and safe within government regulations.
