The last week has been a bit of a whirlwind as we have had to quickly adjust to the new national lockdown, and its implications for the destination and for businesses.

While the priority is absolutely public health, this of course has significant implications for you, with some businesses having to close, some readjusting their offer and others being able to remain open. We have shared guidance with you as quickly as we can, including adding any additional Q&As that we are able to share. At any point, you are welcome to ask questions about the latest rulings and we will answer as quickly as we can – anything we cannot answer immediately, we will seek clarification on.

The team have been continuing to work hard to support the destination and businesses, with our focus recently being on earned media – so pro-active press coverage – and digital marketing. Unfortunately, the new measures have meant that scheduled press trips have been rescheduled and we have reverted to a ‘visit soon’ rather than ‘now’.

From speaking to many businesses, we know that the pick up for stays has become increasingly late and so are offering you to opportunity to promote any special packages you may wish to do so for 2021 as a way of inspiring future visits.

Any businesses offering takeaway services can again promote these through our channels and we can also promote suggestions for local gifts that can be purchased online, especially where these may motivate return stays.

We are continuing to work with partners regards content for Christmas in Bath, so please do bear with us while events are rescheduled. As you may already be aware, the Bath Christmas Market has gone virtual and so we have been able to support those local businesses and charities who would normally trade.

I am also pleased to share that Bath and its venues will be represented at IBTM World, alongside Bristol and the region. Bristol and Bath’s conference, meeting and incentive industry will be part of the Meet England offer. The virtual event takes place from 8th – 10th December, so if there is anything you would like to share, please contact Amy Bramhall.

As well as business visits and events, we are keeping in touch with our leisure trade partners and DMCs, so if you have a specific interest in working with the trade, please do get in touch. While visits may not be possible now, future planning is critical as is maintaining contact with critical partners.

We know the next few weeks will be challenging and difficult for many, whether for your business, your team or you personally, but as ever, we are here to support you and work with you  both now and in the future. Do keep us up to date with your news, whether for our information, to share with others or with the travel media.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our first virtual members meeting next week.
