Marvin Rees (Labour Party) has been re-elected Mayor of Bristol following elections held on Thursday 6 May.

Votes in the Bristol Mayoral election were counted on Saturday 8 May with Marvin Rees receiving 59,276 votes overall. Sandy Hore-Ruthven came in second with 45,663 votes.

A total of 140,599 votes were counted.

Bristol Mayoral elections operate a supplementary voting system. There are two stages to the supplementary vote process. Stage one sees the first preference votes are counted and if a candidate receives more than 50% of these first preference votes then he or she is elected and a result is declared.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the first preference votes then the two candidates with the highest number of votes go forward to stage two. In stage two the second preference votes are then checked for the eliminated candidate(s). Any second preference votes for the remaining two candidates are added to the votes they received in stage one.

The candidate with the highest number of votes received after adding together the results from stages one and two is elected and a result is declared.

No candidate received over 50% of the first preference votes.

Results of the stage one count were:

Tom Baldwin - Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition - 3,194 votes

Robert Vernon Clarke - Reform UK – 806 votes

Sean Patrick Donnelly – Independent - 4,956 votes

Dr. Caroline Gooch - Liberal Democrat - 15,517 votes
