Bristol Community Ferry Boats welcomes students and staff to Temple Quarter with special harbour tours and half-price Waterbus travel for Freshers’ Week

With the University of Bristol’s new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus opening its doors, thousands of students and staff are arriving in this part of the city – and Bristol Community Ferry Boats is giving them a proper Bristol welcome from the water.

From 12–18 September, students and staff can travel for 50% off standard fares across Bristol Ferry’s Waterbus service, giving newcomers a fun and affordable way to start exploring the city and its harbourside.

And for anyone who wants to find out a little more about their new home, there are special Student & Family Harbour Tours on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, departing from Temple Meads Landing Stage, right beside the new Temple Quarter campus.

The tours head out from Temple Meads and into Bristol’s historic Floating Harbour, with live commentary, Bristol stories and plenty of local knowledge along the way.

For students arriving with bags, parents and no idea yet which way is which, it is a chance to swap the pavement for the water, see how Bristol fits together and discover some of the places they’ll soon get to know.

Roisin Tobin-Brooke, Co-Director of Bristol Community Ferry Boats, said:

“The opening of Temple Quarter is really exciting for this part of Bristol. We’re suddenly welcoming a whole new community of students and staff right next to the harbour, and we want them to feel part of the city from the start.

“Our ferries are a great way to get your bearings. You can hop aboard, see Bristol from a completely different angle and start discovering the city you’re going to call home. We hope the half-price Waterbus fares will encourage people to get out and explore during their first week here.”

Bristol Community Ferry Boats is a Community Benefit Society, owned by its members and run for the benefit of Bristol and its communities. Its iconic yellow and blue ferries have been carrying people around the harbour for decades.
